DOGE was never about saving money. It was about traumatizing civil servants and demonizing them in the eyes of the public. By that measure, it was absolutely successful.
It remains insane to me that DOGE was treated at the time as an impressive shock and awe accomplishment - “you can’t deny he’s getting stuff done!” - and then instantly memory holed by the press once if became clear it was a total failure by every possible standard including Musk’s own
Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

No shame in losing to a team that played better. I am gutted because that was probably Trin’s last game in a Spirit uniform and also the city of DC has been through a lot of shit in the last year and this win would have been really nice. But it is what it is. Congrats to Gotham, well deserved.

Tonight there is a draft for a women’s pro baseball league and on Saturday I will watch the women’s soccer team I support play for a championship after their most successful season yet, surrounded by other diehard fans at a bar. I am living in a world 8-year-old me could have never imagined.

Obviously there were a lot of reasons why I left the other site for good, chief among them being that the guy who owns it had a direct hand in me losing a career that I loved and worked incredibly hard for, but also my replies often looked a lot like this and I don't miss that either!
