Today it was Orange’s turn to be featured. 🥰 The artist has a “pay what you can” system so fired feds can get the original sketches of their pets. I can’t wait to have these beautiful portraits framed and hung up in our apartment.

Blue introduced you to our mom yesterday, so I am here to tell you a little more about her work. She helped members of congress and policymakers understand the groundbreaking research of the NIH. She shared information on topics ranging from how mRNA vaccines work to different DNA sequencing techniques to genome editing. Without the work of folks like her, there are no longer policy and communications professionals within NIH that are experts in particular areas of scientific research. This is key to communicating the importance of that research to policymakers and the public. I am obviously smarter than Blue, but to be honest, I don’t really understand DNA sequencing or genome editing either. This is why it was so important for my mom to do the work that she did, explaining these complicated topics to people in positions to make policies that impact human health. Honored that Blue was featured in the Rocket Bear Project - a creative storytelling project from a former USAID employee who is drawing portraits of pets of people who lost their jobs under this administration, highlighting the work they were doing.
