Atlantis megathread index thread!

1. Maurice Doreal, David Icke and Lizard People: bsky.app/profile/part...
First up, I found the origin of David Icke's Lizard People theory.

At some point between 1930 and 1938 (sources differ) a Californian guru named Maurice Doreal (really Claude Doggins from Arkansas) published The Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean.

Bugonia: I think I saw a bunch of reviews that said only, "WTAF was that ending" and all I could think was, you didn't see Save the Green Planet, did you?

Saw it tonight.

Interesting in that it keeps the main plot points but is actually somehow *less* cynical and bleak than the original.

Did you rate my take on it though
Did I make my partner watch The Menu just so I could read @parthenoid.bsky.social's take on it? Yes.

Did it also potentially just become a favourite film of hers? Also yes.

It's Halloween! @mrgeetsromo.bsky.social and I stagger painfully through post war London before ramming the gates at Hammer's secret base to uncover what monstrous conspiracies it took to get the first two Quatermass film classics out on Blu Ray/UHD. With Steve Rogers and @0tralala.bsky.social.

100% this. Even IF he's grown up and repudiated his past, even if that's something that he hadn't failed to show that he'd done... if you're running for office, you can afford a coverup or a lasering. If you don't care to get rid of it... Welp.
There's no need for discourse. Having a totenkopf tattoo is immediately disqualifying not just from political office but from public life. This seems like the most idiotically obvious thing imaginable.

Speaking of podcasts, I have a thing brewing with @evemoriarty.bsky.social, which is exciting.

And @accordingtojond.bsky.social of course, the creator, primary presenter and leading light of BERGCAST. Also the one who's still doing the show with Andy, while I have retired to editing duties.

Humbled. Tamsin is no slouch herself.
@parthenoid.bsky.social is one of the finest writers I've ever read. Nonfiction, fiction, essays, blog posts, whatever. They're simply one of the best word-stringers currently stringing words, especially if your tastes in words run to the weird, the horrific, and the queer. Go check them out.

Subservience (2024)

This is 3 films for 3 I've seen recently featuring sexy robogirls (the others being Companion and AI Rising, and no, I have no excuse for that second one) where the moral is DO NOT JAILBREAK YOUR LOVE ROBOT

You'd think people would learn

Oh, also it's TERRIBLE

I've been in a crisis for weeks.

People have been telling me all the same things about how I'm too hard on myself, how it's not too late, etc,

Last night someone said they felt I was inhabiting Kierkegaard's authentic self, and I immediately felt better.

Which I guess is on brand

Washington Post staffers writing a round robin article about how they can't work out what One Battle After Another is about is the ultimate on-brand behaviour.

I just finished the Mae Martin cult brainwashing/prison school show Wayward on Netflix. And it was OK, but also: how is it that a 100min film can create characters who grow and engage you and still stick a satisfying ending while a miniseries three or four times as long doesn't manage to do that?
September 30, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Damn straight.
Let's not let them get away with claiming they miscalculated, when it comes and goes and they're still here. They got it right, they just didn't make the cut, and should make use of Yom Kippur coming up to atone. No excuses.

The current kerfuffle about the Rapture is based on a prediction that it'll begin with Rosh Hashanah in Jerusalem. That's approximately 4pm BST, or 11am in NYC.

But please note that Rapture Ready's Rapture Index has no mention of this, and also that I looked at Rapture Ready. Ugh.

He wanted me dead, but god damn it, he did it without cussing or shouting, and doesn't that count for everything?

If I don't believe in the death sentence, I don't believe in the rightness of extrajudicial killings. I would be a hypocrite to suspend that principle, even for someone as evil as Kirk.

But mourning a monster like him would also make me a hypocrite.

I don't get why this is so hard.

This is so sad. A warm, generous, kind, witty, intelligent and elegant soul.
A dear, dear friend, John J Johnston, has died suddenly this morning. Am devastated. He let me stay at his granny flat when I visited London a few years ago, and I had a brilliant night out with him and his husband John. A kind, gentle soul. This is a bleak day.

Seeing all the racist shit going on right now and being egged on by the media is making me genuinely fearful for so many people.
I was up last night crying because my stupid brain was like "What if someone went for the family of that kid who told you about his Hey Duggee board books yesterday?"
August 28, 2025 at 9:37 AM
Just heard that John J Johnston has died. If you moved in Egyptology circles or Hammer nerd circles, you probably knew of that lovely, sweet man. Stylish, decent and impeccably dressed.

My heart goes out to the husband he leaves behind.
