Sir, “white settlement” has gone woke.
This race was such a massive swing blowout that Democrat Taylor Rehmet literally won a city called White Settlement

"Our new analysis shows that it is far more dangerous to be pregnant than to have an abortion, and this gap in mortality risk is even larger than previously recognized.” - lead study author Maria Steenland.
In fact, the mortality risk of pregnancy is 44 to 70 times higher than from abortion.
Risk of maternal death during pregnancy greatly underestimated, study finds
A new study comparing deaths of pregnant people and of those who have an abortion show that risk of death due to pregnancy is three times higher than previously estimated.

It is actually an ancient tactic to make those resisting occupation out to be terrorists. The US government usually employs this tactic in its foreign policy on countries it is stripping of resources. The current regime has decided to use this same tactic on the Blue States it is trying to occupy.

Alright… take a sec to recognize what you pushed through — the doubt you didn’t listen to, the anger you didn’t pass on, the moment you stayed when it would’ve been easier to check out. That’s real effort.

Carry that with you.
Until then, keep the songs going.
And the signal human.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

The Catholic Church is calling for defunding ICE. The Episcopalian bishops are all out calling for people to put their bodies in the streets. Make of that what you will.

lol if what they didn't agree on was whether I had human rights, they should feel the social consequences of what it means to have held those views in the first place.

We cannot forgive and forget our way into progress.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

Me: Babe, hypothetically, would you come with me to a B&B run by a retired necromancer? A Dead and Breakfast, if you will?

Her: I… I don’t even know how to answer that.

Me: All of the servers are skeletons, so there’s no smell, and it’s very affordable.

Her: If they’re all skeletons, ok, I guess?

73% of the time when it is done, it is done to Black people.

There’s something kind of cozy about hunkering down for a winter storm.

Got my emergency supplies ready, but excited to make some hot chocolate, mull some mead, and spend a day snuggled under blankets reading a good book.

You rise to the level of your training and practice, not to the level of your imagined self.

So it's extremely important to get skilled up and to practice. That's what all of the people getting trained in ICE Watch are doing.

It’s been unreal watching the white people in my life slowly awaken to the fact that they aren’t safe either, and their whiteness is not enough to protect them from what’s coming this time.

Some of them adamantly believe it will magically resolve before it winds up on their doorstep.

Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.

And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.

When I was traveling across Europe before the election, our tour was paired with 3 sisters from Lithuania for wine tasting.

The one sitting closest to me tried to make me feel better about being American - she used to live in DC and loved it.

I wonder if we reached a grim understanding this year.

This is probably the most accurate description.

Someone in their mid-50s today told me that this is the first time he had thought about or been affected by politics. And that guy is actively guarding buildings and his coworkers from ICE.
Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
This is so smart. I’m so impressed with all the different ways you’re helping your neighbors.

GenAI could never ever do this. Only community can do this. This is why the oligarchs are trying to drag the soul out of the arts. Art is resistance and it is about community spirit.
Incredibly emotional to hear my poem has been turned into a song of resistance and is being sung in Minneapolis right now. Please do not give up.

America is coming to a realization many who grew up with abuse or domestic violence are familiar with.

The promise of hell to pay when the abuser gets home.

It's in that moment victims decide whether to accept the abuse, take flight (if they can), or ready a gun or other weapon.
