If you did not give a shit about it, or saw something out of the corner or your eye and was like, enh, whatever, who cares about downloading books from romance authors, they're all alike...

Just please, please think for a second.

The news that AI was being trained on stolen works?

It was broken first about the BooksCorpus, on May 11 of 2021, and it was discussed in major news media thereafter. Romance authors talked about it. A lot.

The first archive they stole was largely romance.

The news about Harlequin translators getting fired en masse?

You should care about that. They're doing it there because they think nobody gives a shit about romance and so it's fine to experiment with it first.

It is about this: because so many people do not give a shit about romance, shit gets tried in romance first.

You should pay attention to romance publishing news and care about it, because they will try that shit here first.

So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.

A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.

This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.

Don't you just love when a bit that is supposed to be the very last part of the build - the one that was getting in a way of everything for the last couple of weeks - is nowhere to be found now that it is time to attach it 😑😑😑

There's a lot of talk about how "it's inevitable" and "everyone's using it" in regards to gAI and I think it's pretty clear folk are misjudging just how much hatred there is toward it, the more the industry fucks with our jobs, tech, prices, privacy.

You use this shit & your blacklisted to me.

The thing that realy bakes my bacon about genAI being used for placeholder assets is that this is how you train junior artists.

By outsourcing it to plagiarism doomsday device you loose out on a whole new generation of _experienced_ artists in your studio! Why would you kill your own future?
