Dark and Stormy Night (2009) | It makes me sad that throwbacks like this are always spoofs, so I avoided The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra for years. When I finally saw if, of course, I loved it. And yet, I just now got around to this.

It's not quite as perfect as Skeleton, but few things are.

I picked it up because of Kyle Ferrin’s art.

Play Dirty (2025) | I never read any of the Parker novels, but I read the Darwyn Cooke comics and, from them, I got the impression that a Parker story should feel more or less like The Killers ('46 or '64, take your pick). So why have the last couple of Parker movies felt so much like this instead?

1. Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster
2. Ebirah, Horror of the Deep
3. Godzilla vs Hedorah
4. Return of Godzilla
5. Shin Godzilla

(In order of release, not preference.)
Your Godzilla top 5 should include at least one or two Showa picks OTHER than the original, a Heisei and/or Millennium that everyone in the room would look you like you had three heads for loving, and Shin. Them’s the brakes.

Spiritism (1962) | "Horrifying things, inconceivable to the human mind."

There are certain immutable laws of the universe. One of these is that if I find a Mexican horror movie from 1962 called Spiritism, I'm going to watch it, no matter how yellow the print is.

I Walked with a Zombie (1943) was partially based on a 1942 American Weekly article by Inez Wallace. Most people who write about it say that the article was *also* called "I Walked with a Zombie" and that's where the movie gets its title, but it was actually "I Met a Zombie!"

Now more than ever - and for reasons besides that it's just the right thing to do - credit your artists, credit your translators, credit your designers and layout people. Credit any and every human hand that works on your project wherever you can.

Will you regret watching Saga of the Phoenix (1989), I ask over at @unwinnable.com. The answer? Maybe a little, but not as much as you might have heard - assuming you've heard of it at all.

Demon of the Lute (1983) | Introduces itself as wuxia for children. Jammed to the gills with action-figure ready villains and cheerful heroes. Features some of best sets I have ever seen. Generic henchmen appear like magic and are decked out in delightful painted masks. Just a lot to love here.

Well, I just tripped on a rug and beat the absolute ever-loving fuck out of myself.

I'll be fine, just very sore, and it was so much better than it could have been, which is why I'm laying on a bunch of ice packs instead of in the hospital.
