No wonder Minister Murray Watt is 'huffing and puffing' to try to speed up passage of his propose environmental laws through the Senate - the longer and harder we look at the Bills, the more pitfalls and holes we see. 👇Take 'net gain' for example. 👇#auspol

Gas use for electricity generation in Australia is plummeting.

Down 50% over the past decade (!!!) in the NEM on the east coast.

Gas has a small role that's getting smaller and will be absolutely crushed by big batteries in the electricity.

Not a transition fuel, no matter what BS the PM pushes.

It doesn't matter how you feel about her work, whether it was a formative touchstone or not. If you still buy the merch or hype up Harry Potter, you are complicit.

How appalling would the constitution of this so-called 'free and democratic' country be that would allow a person to be punished in advance of any guilt being proven by a court of law?
Minister Gallagher refuses to answer basic questions from @davidpocock.bsky.social about whether they got legal advice that giving cops these powers to cancel welfare payments is constitutional

"This is extraordinary that the government won't even confirm"

116 legal and policy experts have now opposed Labor’s new powers for police to recommend cutting payments from people without them even having been convicted of a crime.

Cops shouldn’t be anywhere near welfare law and Labor should withdraw this amendment. www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/treat...

Why would anyone even contemplate doing that?

I’ve thought about this a lot and it is not my place to say but I’ve always found these words to be neutered by the “phobic” - hate is not a phobia. Phobia implies something that is out of a person’s control. Hate is evil and insidious and shouldn’t be watered down by mental health implications.
good call @erinbiba.bsky.social and can we replace “transphobic” and “homophobic” with anti-Trans and anti-Gay?
Given the way that the term antisemitism has been corrupted and denatured by the right (and the left frankly) to meet their own ends I’m considering replacing the term in my own vernacular with anti-Jewish.
