Join Sydney 🧶👵 and friends outside the Origin AGM 9.30 am Wed 15 Oct at Shangai-La Hotel 176 Cumberland St, Sydney.

And if you’re an Origin shareholder or customer tell them we need clean renewable energy, not thousands of unnecessary new coal seam gas wells.
knitnannassyd.bsky.social
Well, well, well. Origin Energy is planning to drill 4,435 coal seam gas wells across Central Queensland.
* Extraction of 29 billion litres of groundwater

Right now, we’re seeing a return to the bad old days of unconstrained Ministerial powers over individual developments being proposed in NSW Parliament.

The Govt should release ICACs advice on the laws before this gets rushed through Parliament next week.

Back to Obeid? Fast-track housing laws a stalking house for fast-track mines - Michael West
NSW could return to the Obeid days with new fast-track planning laws for “housing” handing the minister unprecedented power for mines

🌞Total land required to replace coal fired energy
🌞Example assumes all solar:120,000 hectares
🌞 That’s less than 0.016 percent of Australia’s total land currently used for agriculture
🌞 Australian agriculture currently accounts for 58% of our land use
🌞And agrisolar = panels + grass/sheep etc

Planning law reform should be about listening to climate science, not the mining lobbyists Chris Minns
knitnannassyd.bsky.social
A change to ourNSW Planning system is being rushed through Parliament by Minns Gov with keen Coalition support as a ‘Planning System Reform Bill’ supposedly aimed to speed up housing approvals. They say. But it is widely pro-development of roads, mines & infrastructure.

Please join Illawarra 🧶👵s at the Office of their local MP & NSW Minister for Planning Paul Scully tomorrow. The NSW government proposal to radically alter planning laws related to all developments will mean bets are off for protecting our environment.

This could have been Australia, but thanks to John Howard, Tony Abbott, Scott Morrison, the Minerals Council and the BCA, we wasted nearly 20 years subsidising gas and coal instead. What a waste.

China ≠ just coal plants and solar exports. The deeper shift: electrifying everything it can. Strategic, because China relies on imported fossil fuels. Coal is still king in the power mix—for now. But the balance is changing year by year.

It allows little input by Councils or Community, has no environmental protections or regard for public safety (floods, bushfires, cumulative impacts) & undermines Scientific advice.
This is a huge power grab with little anti-corruption protection (Eddie Obeid?). A housing bill is not a mining bill.

Think @australianlabor.bsky.social could try a little harder in planning for a future without fossil fuels? We do and that’s why we’ll be at Chris Bowens office tomorrow for a little 🧶 and 📩 with some ideas.
