In DC, Trump officials celebrated the decimation of USAID with a sheet cake.

In South Sudan, USAID budget cuts closed a health clinic in the middle of a cholera outbreak.

Tor Top had to take his sick mother to the hospital, 8 hours away. She died on the way.

apart from the sheer inconceivable horror of the El Fasher massacre and its attendant horrors itself, the thing I'm feeling depressed about is that it probably won't matter.

these were people already on the utmost margins of the global system, who the world has already decided it doesn't care about
60,000 is the *low end* estimate.
So, El Fasher looks like one of the worst single event atrocities to happen this century so far, but the evidence has come in such a trickle it seems to only now be getting verified

We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words.

Why tf does she have "marks" on her neck?

"Tincher has marks on her neck and wrist from where agents restrained her. Agents cut off her wedding ring and held her in leg shackles at Whipple Federal Building for about 5 hours."

Agents threatened to pull over and pepper spray her.

Folks might not know a lot of people are getting *very* upset that the materials they request are not available in the libraries/archives they're requesting from.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.

growing problem for the dems is that their voters want progressive candidates but the party leadership generally doesn't. so there's no structure to identify and vet good progressive candidates until it's too late.
The noisiest Dem primary so far is probably Maine Senate, and here for instance I think it’s useful to see that despite all the bad publicity Platner still appears to be the favorite:

Trump: "I'm delighted to announce this afternoon that the US will be taking a small portion of the hundreds of billions of dollars we receive in tariffs ... and we're going to be giving and providing it to the farmers in economic assistance. We love our farmers. The farmers like me ... $12 billion"

Of babies infected w/Hepatitis B, 90% develop chronic infection.

Of those, 1 in 4 will DIE.

They lose the ability to get rid of toxins & make important proteins. Their skin yellows, their abdomen swells, they’re uncomfortable. A fate no one deserves.

One we can avoid w/ vaccination.

I'm going to keep saying this in my effort to speak it into reality: Supreme Court should have at least 100 Justices with rotating panels (and maybe an en banc option). No single Justice should have so much power and they shouldn't be names everyone knows.
A court with a normal-ish conservative majority would have been tolerable. I'm not eager for court packing, impeaching justices, and other such options. But this court sticking around post-Trump is untenable. They've already torched their own legitimacy, the only question is what do we do about it.
Democrats need to lay the groundwork for reform by attacking the villains on the Supreme Court - loudly, angrily, personally, relentlessly. And they should start now.
