The Republican position now appears to be that you have a constitutional right to openly carry a gun in public, unless you do so while expressing a view that the government dislikes, in which case the secret police can shoot you to death on the spot.
Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

Reading this book I was struck by the similarities between ICE and its current violent, dehumanizing aporoach to slave catchers and their activities after the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act.
