Refusal is an absolutely valid and ethical stance when it comes to AI.
I do not need to include it in my teaching, or research--there is nothing it does that is indispensable, and much is made worse with AI in my classrooms.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends:

1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration;

2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you;

3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

Folks were *never* nicer here. Kinder, perhaps, but not nice.

Being mean (setting boundaries) was a part of what made Bluesky good and set the culture apart from Twitter.

The "kind versus nice" dichotomy is important to understand, because fascists mask cruelty with "nice".

Nuclear family is a product of recent, specific political-economic circumstances in Euro-North America. Always critically examine claims of human nature, it’s usually just things the hegemonic power structure wants to keep doing even though it’s kinda bad for everyone.

#Canada finally voted “YES” for two important UN general Assembly Resolutions!

1) support of permanent and immediate ceasefire in Gaza

2) defending UNRWA against Israel’s attacks

From @cjpme.org newsletter!

This is an integral step towards Canada recognizing #Palestine.

It's the paradox of how AI is sold to us: first, we're told it's an amazing timesaver, freeing us to do the "really important stuff." But when we talk about its inaccuracies and "hallucinations," they say, "well of course it's important to check the output's accuracy, yes." Which...takes extra time!
This made me so angry that I read the entire article and actually I do not understand how AI helped at all, everyone seems to be doing more work to help the robot than it would take just to have humans teach and edit a textbook and everything else. Also I hate it so much did I say that
UCLA is creating an entirely AI-generated course. Except apparently the grading won't be AI-generated. 🤔

Today, you will hear "They were killed because they were women" & that's only partially true.

He did not go into a woman's house.
He did not enter the nursing department.

He killed 14 women because they were studying in a male dominated field.

I feel the anniversary of the École Polytechnic massacre in my body, the way it can be with grief over loved ones.

I was a girl thinking of studying physics 35 years ago when 14 young women were murdered in Montreal for being like me- for being women studying engineering thus deemed unworthy.

Every organizer that I've spoken to has said direct crowdfunding is the only way to get money to people in Gaza, where what little food gets in is hugely overpriced. Yes, there is a risk involved but I think it is outweighed by the futility of other means. These are vetted fundraisers: gazafunds.com
