💼 The Chancellor made a number of bold, important interventions in the Budget today:

- Scrapping the two-child limit in Universal Credit
- Lowering energy bills
- Holding down transport costs
- Increasing the minimum wage

These will all assist families struggling to get by.

Hearing Rachel Reeves explain why it is so important to lift hundreds of thousands of kids out of poverty is a reminder of what a Labour government can do. It is also a reminder of how little of this sort of thing they have done and how much more needs to be done.

I know this is me being a bit partisan/unfair but contrast Mel Stride's response to a document coming out 30 minutes early to his parties response to the COVID report last week.

Feel an issue of proportionate response in our politics.

Still: the end of the two child cap on child benefit is straightforwardly good news. It was an iniquitous policy that did a lot of harm to vulnerable children and it is good that it's going.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Appears to be some discourse about Pies.
Two thoughts
1) Pies are one of the greatest methods for food delivery, both working for both savoury and sweet
2) There is an amazing place in Iowa City that does PieShakes and frankly its probably the closest I'll get to nirvana

Clearly needed to balance it with a sentence calling Kamala Harris the most corrupt vice president in American history.

But seriously this is dire
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Late night thought but do wonder if there is anyway Reeves pulls off this budget.
Feels like the Comms around it have all been so negative/mismanaged by the government just doesn't seem feasible.

Although can the bar being so low make it easier to get over?
