A lot of people come into the games industry and pretty soon develop a cynical attitude that the industry is largely run by business guys who don't know a thing about video games. It's only after a few years and some seniority that you realize that those guys don't know shit about business either.

my extremist position is that we should just make all direct/paid advertising illegal and things should spread only via word-of-mouth.

current state of FFXIV is so funny. it's a holy trinity tank/healer/DPS mmo. but you don't actually really need a healer for 99% of things if you just play competently. and tanks don't have to manage aggro or their own HP or do anything really other than damage.

Oblivion i bought on 360, physical copy for PC, then PS3, then again on Steam. though i do feel like i'm forgetting at least one additional purchase...
