I was at MANY of these stops. Here’s what would happen: the agents would stand guard at the cars, Bovino would literally pose out front while people yelled at him. It was a pathetic, obvious attempt to antagonize neighbors - they transited three gas stations and did the exact same thing thrice.

Doomerism is also attractive bc it means that the posting they're doing has more meaning than it inherently does. "We're doomed regardless so me venting here does just as much as the people organizing against it!"

Harder to feel doom when you're side by side with people building community.

This is Minneapolis:

Walk into my neighborhood ACE last night & see the signage on their door notifying fed agents that it’s private property and cannot be used for immigration enforcement. These signs are all over the city.

Walk in & the nearest shelf has goggles & whistles.

Path pretty simple from here:

-Trump invades Greenland
-NATO expels U.S.
-Remaining NATO nations declare war on U.S.
-Nuclear standoff
-Frank Sinatra returns from the grave and tells Trump to "knock it off"
-Zombie Frank Sinatra greeted as liberator
-President Sinatra
-New golden age of martinis

“Things are bad for me now in a way they have never been for anybody ever in history or in the world” is a thought process rooted in both naivety and privilege. Please look to freedom movements across the world and learn how they survived and defeated extreme oppression.

President Donald Trump said he will meet with Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado next week — and that he would accept the award she has said she wants to share with him.
Trump says he will meet Machado — and would accept Nobel Peace Prize from her
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said it “would be a great honor” if the Venezuelan opposition leader decided to share her Nobel Peace Prize with him.

There were people in 1970 who thought the student protesters at Kent State deserved it when they were shot to death.

I’m reminding myself of that so I don’t fall into denial and imagine the sadistic glee I’m seeing on X about the ICE shooting is new. It’s not.

It’s a strand in our cultural fabric.

, our standard mode of engagement with the world exhibits what Keith Stanovich calls “cognitive miserliness,” which means that we try to get through life as much as we can relying on intuition, and it’s only when that fails –

I really think this is a big secret to Trump's "coalition," serious anti-establishment types and big ol' dumbasses are united in their feeling that experts don't know what they're talking about
An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.

Okay another great one:

Group sends Twain an invitation to speak at an event, but the mail gets delayed and when it arrives, the day of the event has passed.

Twain: “I am very, very sorry, but all last week’s dates are full. I will gladly come week before last, if that will answer.”
Listening to the new Mark Twain biography by Ron Chernow and there are a lot of great Twain jokes from notebooks, letters and newspaper stories. He just wrote that French literature was “confined to the two great branches of modern French thought: science and adultery.”

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.
