it’s kinda grimly hilarious that even in the shape he’s in now, Trump is apparently the only person in his circle with the political instincts to not quadruple down on shooting a mother in the face.

This is not going to happen because the Republican Party mostly agrees with Donald Trump and supports what he is doing. They would not only be setting themselves up for primary losses, but undermining an agenda they mostly support and would like to see continue.

I mean what would Trump reasonably do if Minnesota pressed charges. Deny funding to the state? He's already doing that!
Remember: Federal officials do not enjoy categorical, absolute immunity from state-level prosecutions. They are entitled to removal to federal court. But conduct that is unreasonable or unnecessary for the execution of their law enforcement duties is susceptible to criminal prosecution.
