Props on the clergy for standing up for what is right.

Mini protests happening across the city. People are still actively out patrolling for ICE. People are still at Whipple helping those released who are being dumped without phones, warm clothes, etc. People are still delivering groceries to those sheltering in place. All while thousands are downtown.

Thesis: ICE is un-American and the Minneapolis protestors are real Americans.

Antithesis: Ackshually ICE is operating in a long American tradition of racist terror.

Synthesis: Minneapolis is now the epicenter of a clash between two distinct but historically grounded American political traditions.

The last general strike in Minneapolis was in 1934.

It started in May, leading to a series of small battles between strikers and police. The two sides agreed to a contract on May 25.

Employers reneged in July, and police opened fire on protesters who flooded the streets. Two died, 67 were wounded.

Burn it all down.

Neither party is salvageable.
Per Jake Sherman, the Democrats who voted for it all hail from Trump districts

The Senate is on recess this whole week.

The Senators could all be in Minneapolis right now, riding with ICE patrols, speaking out about what's happening, and standing up for what's right.

That they are not is a choice.

We're gonna have to sit in at our Congress people's offices. That means not just the DC ones, not just the Cities, that means out in the exurbs and rural areas. Absolutely surround their offices and demand attention.

It also means both Dems and GOP.

This is not about the Constitution -- we can tell that by the feds' wanton disregard for it.

This *is* about suppressing effective nonviolent resistance. You can tell how well tactics work by the forcefulness of the response.

Personal Me: I don’t give a crap about how “tragic” you find our resistance, writer parachuting into town for a hot take. I also don’t love bits from pundits implying that it will basically be our fault if the Insurrection Act is invoked, etc. Knock it the fuck off and help us to the extent you can.

if you cant instruct your local police to surround schools to protect them from ice because youre scared the cops will turn around and instead help kidnap children then you should state that plainly and clearly

The baseline is absolute exhaustion, and that's for those of us who have it "easy." It's much worse for so many.

But the baseline is also fucking resolve and determination and a commitment to keep our community safe.

It's genuinely a leaderless (or leaderful) movement, decentralized in a way that the state is absolutely unequipped to handle. There are a few basic skills involved, and so people teach each other those skills, and people are collectively refining them.

Amy is running around on a standard press junket, pretending everything is normal and have you noticed she hasn't met a single black or brown person in any of these photos?

I joined agriculture leaders from across the state today in Mankato for the Minnesota Ag Expo. Minnesota farmers are the backbone of our economy, and we must ensure they have what they need to thrive—strong markets and stable trade policies.

They lifted the person up and sat them up in the street, and then arrested them and put them in another SUV. I shouted "we have medics, let us take care of them" and the agent in front of me went "We have medics too" and I replied "Oh like you did for Renee" and his face visibly fell.

Sixteen years ago, the Supreme Court decided that corporations are people under the First Amendment.

Today, sold-out politicians block progress on all fronts to appease their corporate donors.

Citizens United is among the worst decisions in history. It corrupts our system every day.

Gender all the way down. Toxic masculinity.
"Research would tell us that most ICE agents entered into these jobs in part because they want approval, and they want to affirm their masculinity in public," said sociologist Nicole Bedera. "An ICE watch works by surrounding these people ... with disapproval."
Observing ICE agents is 'a de-escalation tactic,' sociologist says
The federal government has accused ICE watchers of breaking the law. Sociologist Nicole Bedera said ICE watchers have science behind them. She spoke with MPR News host Clay Masters.
