I will never understand the appeal of software that "adaptively shapes itself." Software is a tool. Humans are tool users. It's the one thing that we're uniquely good at. If the tool changes every time you use it, you can't learn to use it better, which makes it a bad tool.
unfortunately, this paragraph of the manifesto is not correct in any way whatsoever.

no existing thing sold as "AI" does this at all. the marketers lie that it does, and then it doesn't.

anyone signing this manifesto, ask them for the software that does this.

The post-LLM era may be characterized by companies willfully walking away from AI, realizing many customers find it offensive, expensive and unreliable. What will remain will be a paired-down version of chatbots we use today, if any of them still exist.

"AI Guardrails" has the same connotation to me as "Clean Coal".

They're not really a thing. They're just the wishful thinking and spin of an industry that's been caught being inherently, unavoidably harmful on a fundamental level.

"AI dubs" are dead!

We can indeed stop these companies when they try to replace people with stolen slop.

The solution is bullying corporations, which is half y'all's hobby anyway so this should be easy.

Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

Seeing so many people in here arguing about whether artists are “petite bourgeoisie” as defined in an economy that doesn’t exist anymore. You can’t slap a 150 year old term onto a class of people (artists and craftsman) who bear NO resemblance to the pre Industrial Revolution economy.

Well, I didn’t expect this to blow up, and I certainly didn’t mean for it to piggy back off of the original post, but I am at least going to plug my LA history Instagram account from which that AI has been pulling its content:

"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

If I open an article and the splash banner is AI slop, I close the tab. If you don't have the bare minimum of discernment to not do that, what else do you consider "good enough" to publish?
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

I see AI slop in anything, I instantly disregard the whole thing. It's like finding a slug in your salad. If you can't write without an LLM, or you can't source art that isn't genAI, you can't be trusted to do anything. Sorry. Absolute deal-breaker.

I made a machine steal the work of a real human being. It's almost as if the stolen work it regurgitated seems like it was written by a real human being. Instead of giving that credit to the breathing person it was stolen from... perhaps the theft machine is actually alive??

Saw a bit of talk about slop suckers begging on their knees for Steam to drop AI disclosure.

Clearly that's assinine, if it was not effective, they'd not be whining about it.

What should happen, is for Steam to ban all games using any content generated with "ai".
Much safer for any consumer.

They see their little project is failing, they know genAI has a bad rep and people are less likely to buy something if they see it's made with AI, so they're getting desperate and now they want to fool the consumers 🤷‍♀️
