The problem with stormtroopers isn't "training". The problem with stormtroopers is that they are stormtroopers.
The issue with ICE is not training, the issue with ICE is that it fundamentally should not exist. The violence is the purpose

It's more than a little disconcerting that invading another country to steal its resources is now less controversial and more acceptable to my government and much of this country than me using the bathroom

The new transfer of Eyes Wide Shut is completely stunning, and in the service of a deeply rich text. I tried to organize some thoughts about the movie. boxd.it/coS1wR

agree with this thread, but: i wouldn't assume people have seen some challenging piece of art. so many gamers don't engage with any media outside 'nerd' spaces. likely a big reason why we're sleepwalking into reliving 20th century censorship battles is these people don't know the history at all
i cannot believe video games are having a massive controversy in 2025 for a horror work like ten times less explicit and extreme than antichrist. everyone's seen that fuckin movie.

#WakeUpDeadMan convinced me The Last Jedi is about Rian Johnson's relationship with Christianity. Faith, pacificsm, the distance between reality and myth... the way the two films' thematic obsessions echo each other is hard to ignore.

This is the movie everyone thinks Casablanca is.
Noël Coward’s 🇬🇧British romantic drama “BRIEF ENCOUNTER” directed by David Lean was theatrically released #OTD in 1945 to widespread critical acclaim. It received three nominations at the 19th Academy Awards, Best Director, Best Actress (for Johnson), and Best Adapted Screenplay

An incredible actor often hamstrung by type casting but rose above it all the same. Would have been the *perfect* actor (right age, leading man vibes, *actually* Mexican) for the Heston role in Touch of Evil.
Remembering today #RicardoMontalbán born #OnThisDay in 1920, seen here as the villainous bullfighter Luis Montoya in the #Columbo episode "A MATTER OF HONOR" (1976) with co-stars Peter Falk, Pedro Armendáriz Jr. and Maria Grimm

#SilentHillf is a fucking knife to the gut, the best the series has been in over 20 years, and further evidence that Silent Hill is at its most compelling when giving voice to female rage.

Thanks to Signalis I can no longer look at any scifi horror game without thinking:

Caught @realgdt.bsky.social presenting his majestic, mythic, and timely adaptation of Frankenstein at the Paris in NYC yesterday, about an angel sent to Earth that none of us deserve.

When I saw Network for the first time it was *this* scene that knocked me on my ass. People have no idea what this movie's really about, because we are living in its predicted dystopia.

Your reminder that difficulty for difficulty's sake in video games is a form of capitalist oppression.

Seeing myself as a "parent" or "god" to people I write feels utterly wrong and disturbing to me. Writing is more like discovering parts of yourself you weren't fully aware of. Characters *reveal"* themselves to you, like the statue already inside the marble. You discover them. You don't "make" them.
philosophical talk with my gf while we're on a road trip, so i wanna ask a question to all of you.

how do you define your relationship as a creator to your characters? is it a parental bond? is it a god + creation bond? is it something else? is it too complex to explain?

i wanna know.

Kojima Bros are the Nolan Bros of video games. This is why queer Metal Gear fans are the only ones I can stand.

Let's not take video games down the path of the Live Action Disney Remakes, please.
I reviewed Metal Gear Solid Delta - and I feel the same about it that I do about Persona 3 Reload - I don’t really know why it exists. I think this remake doesn’t quite get how the limitations of the PS2 were important to the game’s identity (1/2) www.inverse.com/gaming/metal...
'Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater' Made Me Question Why Video Games Get Remakes
'Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater' is a competent remake of an all-time classic, but it does lose a bit of the original's vibrant personality in the process.

I reviewed SUPERMAN, a movie as fun as it is earnest, a sincere and heartfelt invocation of everything we know to be right, and a righteous fist to the jaw of all the craven evil running unchecked through our world.

I loved it.

Sure, The Incredibles is still technically a better Fantastic Four movie, but First Steps is a better Tomorrowland movie, so Brad Bird and Matt Shakman can call it even.

Should be obvious, folks.
If supporting human rights, equity, and justice and liberation for all risks costing you elections, you should support those things anyway because if you sacrifice human beings to win a election you don't deserve the office anyway and can't be trusted with that power.
