The darkness inside these shrivelled men must be like a gaping unfillable void.

Putin spends millions from Russia's budget to subject Ukrainians to a life without heating, electricity and water during a harsh winter. He wants hospitals, schools, nurseries to stop working. He strives to freeze the homes where kids and adults, the elderly and the sick live.

Good to set measurable goals.
⚡️ 'We aim to kill 50,000 Russians a month,' Ukraine's new defense minister says.

"Last month, 35,000 were killed; all these losses are verified on video. If we reach 50,000, we will see what happens to the enemy," Fedorov said.

It's clear that Greenland is now such an idée fixe for Trump that the entire US state will be used to pursue it.
Interesting how, when pressed to sound more forceful personally against Trump, Starmer restates essential nuclear and intelligence partnership. Wld be interesting to know what, if any, implicit and explicit threats US has made to withdraw that cooperation. Strong whiff of backstage menaces there.

This map exposes the Greenland lie.

The US used to have a massive military footprint here.

Today, they operate just ONE base.

If Trump were actually worried about Russian vessels, he would simply open more bases, which Denmark allows

Any promises by Trump are worthless. No trade deals are guaranteed. No trust is left in the alliance. Hoping it might get better is not a strategy. Time to push back. If Ukraine can do it, so can we. F Off American Warship.

My point is..,,there’s no point clinging onto hope that the alliance can be saved, US still be relied upon in extremis. It can’t. So, what’s holding us back from retaliating?
I’ve been stalwart backer of transatlantic alliance all my life. I understand why Europeans have so far trod softly/tried to keep Trump onside. But, there comes a time when you have to face reality. The US is no longer our ally. Its defense guarantee is worthless. Time to kick ass back🧵

Rather than the older retaliation packages Europe could also just put a 10% tariff on US imports or go straight to taxes on US services to react more strongly.

Then prepare escalation steps.

Europe has little choice but to hit back really hard since Trumps Greenland demand cannot be negotiated.
Woah Nellie, Trump rekindles the trade war with Europe over Greenland.

The President announces 10% tariffs on France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK (yes), Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia.

The tariffs will rise to 25% on June 1st unless Greenland is sold to the US.

Europe shows up to play soccer, the rest of the world shows up for American football. There is no referee. Europe gets beaten up, but the next time they show up for soccer again and are surprised they get beaten up.
This from Tim Garton Ash @fromtga.bsky.social is a tough read for an EU diplomat of my generation. Perhaps he’s right. But at this point in my career it’s hard to adjust, hard to find room for optimism. I feel ready to pass the baton, frankly. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

There is no legal justification, whatsoever, to use military force against a NATO ally like Greenland.

If any military member participates in this without congressional authorization, they are following illegal orders.
