“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to curate a social media feed that’s heavy on the latter.”
Olbermann, determined not to be left out of the apparent “men who shouldn’t be volunteering such dubious information about their relationship with Olivia Nuzzi” contest, invites us all to do the math on how old a woman born in 1993 was when a man born in 1959 got to know her in 2011.

This whole “Rush Hour 4” thing is basically more reasons than I could possibly have needed not to see a movie I was probably never going to watch anyway.

I’m not saying that what the AI companies and their backers want is to render us all brainless and docile, but I’ll admit that if that was their goal, then this would be a good way to go about it.

“My ex-fiancée sat on a bunch of important stories that were deeply relevant to the public interest for the sake of her own personal gain.”

That’s terrible. Why are you telling us about it in serialized instalments on your own platform now, and how long have you known but not told us?

The province banned speed cameras in our cities because they were working too well. But don’t worry, because they’re replacing them with something that doesn’t.
NEW: Doug Ford promised giant signs to replace speed cameras in school zones. Well, they've arrived and... they're huge. So big they don't fit onto existing poles.

Cities say they're too big, the province says they were briefed weeks ago. #Onpoli

Cities say the signs sent to replace speed cameras are too big. The transportation minister believes they should be able to 'figure out how to install a sign.'

Three people, including two National Guard troops, were shot in D.C. this afternoon. Details are still unfolding, but it’s true that there was no reason for the National Guard to be there in the first place. They were put in harm’s way for political theatre.
Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.

My youngest told me last night that they’d invented a number to represent the concept of infinity minus infinity.

I said great, but then we had a talk about how the first thing you should do when you have a new idea like that is check to see what other people may have already done with your idea.

Bad news for Elton John re: the potential for Trump to be the President who ends the AIDS epidemic.
SCOOP: The Trump administration has instructed employees and grantees not to use U.S. funds to commemorate World AIDS Day — because the observance was started by the World Health Organization.

“Too Dumb to Fail”
James Bond supervillains threaten to blow up the world with their big laser unless you pay them a trillion dollars.

Real American supervillains embed themselves in the economy and threaten to cause a depression unless you subsidize their sex robots and the weird chatbots they use to avoid humans.

The bank has been trying to reach someone who used to be at what’s now my work number. Their automated system wouldn’t let me tell the bank that they have the wrong number. I had to figure out how to call a human at the bank and ask them to stop calling me at work looking for this other guy.

I know it’s cheesy, but “You’re the best dad.” It’s not remotely true, but it’s always nice to hear.
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

They’re testing different “reception doorbell” options at work, one after the other. The whole office sounds like a Pink Floyd segue.

There’s an argument to be made that Trump is a president well suited to the age of LLMs, in the sense that people can’t stop looking at both and saying “Wouldn’t it be great if this had the power to be something completely different than the hopelessly shitty thing it actually is?”
Okay, this headline makes Elton sound FAR more foolish than his “maybe I can use my celebrity to nudge this vain president” wishes expressed here but it’s still a deeply silly thing to say aloud, given Trump and RFK Jr.’s *open attack* on research funding 🫤
Elton John Says Ending AIDS Could Make Trump "One of the Greatest Presidents in History"
Elton John has appealed to Donald Trump's legacy, arguing that ending the AIDS epidemic would make him "one of the greatest presidents in history."

It would have been nice if someone asked Doug Ford to explain how he plans to order these charity audits given charities are overseen federally by Canada Revenue Agency

Ford's warning came after members of the tenant advocacy group ACORN interrupted the legislature to protest a controversial omnibus bill that shortens some eviction timelines.

Ah, that’s unfortunate.
on his "I didn't leave the left, the left left me" speaking tour 🙄

(speaking as a decade long Canadaland patreon supporter who finally had enough last year, stopped paying, stopped listening, the quality cratered)

Donald Trump can be, and I think is, both a vile and despicable tyrant and the victim of dementia and elder abuse.

He’s always been an eager kleptocrat and an easy mark, but he’s clearly also now being used and manipulated by his own people.

oh this is absolutely what i think. i think they feed him fake polls and outright AI slop
At this point, I wonder if he isn't lying when he says he has "my highest Poll Numbers, ever" since it's entirely possible that's what his aides are telling him. It's quite likely that there's an entire Potemkin village built around Trump right now.

I don’t tend to think the opinions and lifestyles of the partners of politicians are newsworthy in and of themselves. The details of their daily lives are not in the public interest.

But if a news outlet decided to check in with Cheryl Hines each week, then I’ll admit, I’d be morbidly curious.

My takeaway from a news organization saying “We asked ChatGPT” tends to be “Well, anybody could have done that.”
Ugh CBC this is sort of a silly article anyhow, but no don't just ask ChatGPT - especially since you're already interviewing actual experts.

"So we asked ChatGPT" is *NEVER* news!
