It really is just simple geometry.

You cannot build a functional city if everyone brings a 2-ton living room on wheels with them.
The entrance to the 3-storey bike parking garage at Utrecht Central holding 12,500 bicycles. It’s free for the first 24 hours, linked to the station, and used by tens of thousands every day. This is what happens when a country treats bikes as real transport infrastructure, not an afterthought.

All these "but Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft let you download your old purchases" people forget about already existing failures like OnLive or Stadia.

I'm not expecting the big 3 companies to go under but it could happen and their legacies will just be purely physical games and illegal preservation.

I’m getting more and more of these too. It’s depressing.
I am by no means a prominent public intellectual, but my inbox is increasingly filled with messages from people who have been convinced by sycophantic chatbots that they have discovered revolutionary theories that entirely upend our scientific understanding of the universe.

Don't have much time to write out my thoughts, but: I can hardly say enough good things about "The Art of Logic in an Illogical World" by Dr. Eugenia Cheng. An asbolitrly amazing intro to logical principles through a modern and compassionate lens.

Let's see... a one on one sport prone to fluke results that generates enormous revenue but transfers almost none of it to increasingly anonymous athletes in a global environment of rapid gambling expansion. Maybe you could write a better formula for fight fixing but I sure couldn't.

Pope Leo quotes Hannah Arendt:

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist."

Today on Flatbush/Clarkson. This kind of wreckage should not be possible on residential streets.

The great thing about books is they're an incredibly accessible and effective way of acquiring and processing new information.

The bad thing about books is, like any other media, they can look promising but be absolute drivel, and the only way you can find out is after you spend 2+ hours reading.

Dana believes, on a fundamental level, that the UFC's success is a product of his work, specifically. Nothing to do with the fact that he had rich friends, no, it's because he's just that much of a shark.

And if you start to think like that, why would you ever accept failure? Just keep sharking.
Are there any good theories on why Dana White is set on trying/failing to make Power Slap a thing?

On a cynical ghoulish capitalist level, I KINDA get it in the sense they found people who do it cheaply and, if it pops off, it's very digestible on all video platforms. But...it ain't popping off.

@hankgreen.bsky.social Mr. Green, if I may make a request, would you consider asking your artists to add a cool leather jacket as an outfit in your app so that my son, James Bean, can be appropriately overdressed? Thank you.

People walking and biking get shamed for wearing headphones. Meanwhile, drivers sit inside sealed metal cabins with 12-speaker sound systems, fully isolated from the world and no one questions it, even as they operate 2-ton machines through crowded cities.

Minnesotans like using our bikes for transportation.

We should keep building the infrastructure (network of protected bike lanes, secure bike storage, bike share & bike libraries, etc.) to support it!
