I lost my way with this one. The extent of the rust spots were paving my way to overworking even without my own blundering, and I of course walked merrily -- and then tearfully -- right into it.

I've wanted to make a larger Christmas tree for a few years now but historically been too busy to have the time or energy to do it.

Its been the quietest November I've known so thought screw it, I'm throwing myself into something indulgent that I'm going to love bringing to life.

Got my camera out today to take some photographs of some of the Kusudama I have been making in the last few weeks. I was planning to take more product photos, but I enjoyed taking these shots too much! Hope to take more photos in the days to come.

As artists it can feel like there's a pressure to make art faster, more generic, and marketable for a wide audience. Generating art is that idea to an extreme. I think we need to embrace niche art that has thought and care put into it. Not just for clients, but making something only for yourself.

Made a pupa of the woolly bear caterpillar and now covering it in a cocoon (I know not very exciting but the isabella tiger moth will come next!) 🐛🦋
In the palm of my hand I’m holding a tiny sculpture of a pupa of the woolly bear caterpillar, made with just a few reddish brown semi-translucent beads. Same sculpture in my hand but this time I’ve started adding strings of small brown beads all around the pupa to make its cocoon.

A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a little monster sitting on the shoulder of a person in a green top. It is dark, and the monster is horned, has long orange fur, huge glowing eyes, purple hands and feet (that also look like hands) with long orange claws, and they are perched neatly, knees against their chest, with one thane on their knee, the other pulling on the person’s ear. This is a representation of the “devil on my shoulder”, a naughty creature that wants me to do naughty things, like hiding all the spoons (I’m in my 50s, committing actual evil is way too much work). My monster is snuggly, and is friends with the other voices in my head, especially Clive. They have a lot in common. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a red wingless dragon climbing up a sheer cliff face. The dragon has their back to the viewer, their body vertical against the cliff, head facing right, forked tongue out to taste the air. Their four gold-clawed, five-digit feet are splayed, grasping crags on the cliff. Their body is curved in a snake-like shape, with large pointed scales all the way to the end of their tail. The dragon has small webbed head frills (like fish fins) on either side of their head, like ears. Their eyes have yellow irises and slit vertical pupils, and they are looking towards sunlight, suggested by raking yellow lines from top right to bottom left. The cliff is grey, cool in the shadow, and warmer where the rays of sun are hitting the rock. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a black parrot, or maybe a raven, or something in between, standing on a stick (or a bone), against a red background that gets darker further down. The bird’s wings are flared, and their feather crest raised, all in silhouette, except for the top feathers on one wing, which reflect the red light. Their head is in profile, and their eye is reflecting a point of light (or maybe their eyes glow; I’m not sure, it’s a very scary raven-parrot). They are not saying, but they ARE thinking: “Whatever you want, piss off. I’m not in the mood.” “These Are Pearls That Were His Eyes” - A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a mercreature with light orange skin and a red tail, wearing lots of jewelry and a filmy white spangled scarf, holding a glowing orb above and in front of their head, face in profile, facing left, with their tail curled around to the left. They are wearing two red feathers on their head, attached to a tiny gold headpiece, between two ear-like head fins. Their eyes are huge, with enormous black pupils and blue sclera. Their long claws are gold, and both arms and hands are stretched to hold the orb. Their red scales are decorated with gold. There is gold jewelry around their tail, and their fins have piercings with loops and studs. There are three other sea creatures staring at the orb: lower left, a small orange octopus, top left, a purple fish, and center top, an eel, with their head facing the orb so that both eyes are visible, their body behind and slightly above, weaving back and forth. Background is green, light yellow green around the orb, deepening slowly to dark green around the edges of the drawing.
