#Birdtober Day 10: Kalij Pheasant

After doing the Wyandotte Chicken, this one was way less intimidating! Kalijs have many variations of color, their metallic-looking feathers remind me of dragon scales no matter the color.

Quick #FossilFriday #paleoart post: a 2025 redo of my 2019 take on the giant #deer Megaloceros. Palaeolithic art captures some aspects of Megaloceros appearance but the details are not unambiguous: when is a line across a body a stripe, when is it a boundary between colour regions?

awe thank yous! I wanted to create something dynamic with the faces facing forward, swimming towards the viewer. Took a bit to get the pose. I usually draw bottlenose dolphins. Anatomy wise, it's neat to learn about the differences. ^^

Perched on some rocks as you would expect to find in the desert on inselburgs or fluvial fans that carry big rocks down mountainsides, particularly in ecotones where deserts meet mountains.

The rocks themselves have some lichen growing on them, a small california buckwheat, and a little beavertail cactus poking out too.

This stunning oriole is the national bird of Venezuela, which makes its name particularly fitting.
This time I loosened up a little bit, and also used some half-dry copic marker I found among my art supplies. I like how it subtly smudged my hatching. #birdart 🪶 🐡 🎨
