Beautiful piece by @TimAdamsWrites on the brilliant Observer journalist Rachel Cooke who could write wonderfully about anything, has died tragically young and will be hugely, hugely missed by so many people.

Meanwhile, here's an example of the horrendous things found in Hillary Clinton's emails—the only story worth covering for any serious news outlet in 2016, apparently.

This email is also regarding a child who suffered abuse from a grown man.

What is the top rhyme/song/routine that you would expect a preschooler to know? Eg ‘round and round the garden like a teddy bear’? (Out of date?) I need regional (and TV related) and international examples in other languages too please. RT to wide audience 🙏

Three people who’d be expected to be Your Party bigwigs have largely walked away from Corbyn’s project: former NE mayor Jamie Driscoll, former Labour MP Beth Winter, and former ANC MP Andrew Feinstein.

I have some new intel on the fall-out, if you’re interested in that sort of thing… 🧵

One simple, powerful and often overlooked thing you can do to resist fascism?

Wear a mask, ideally an N95!

Covid is not over

Masking sends a powerful message that you value your health & the health of your community

That you don’t think disabled lives are expendable

It’s radical community care

One evening Max, next door's cat, pawed at our patio door to be let in. I opened it and he sauntered in looking annoyed, jumped on 'his' chair and curled up to snooze.

Then i realised i could hear an alarm. Looked over the fence. They were out for the day, and their kitchen was on fire.

Ok, I don’t like being internet police, and I’m never going to tell anyone specific what to do - we’re all adults here - but the reason I think people should get off twitter is that the presence of moderate voices there is what allows it to exist, and to do what it’s doing.

Over the last 10 years, the world spent ~$70 trillion on fossil fuels and associated infrastructure. They provide 76% of global energy.

Over the same time, ~$3.5 trillion was spent on wind & solar, which now provide 6% of global energy.

Pretty good value for the investment.

Adam Ant is 71 today. Hard to emphasise how seismic this was in playgrounds across the country in 1980. For a period he was as big as any act has been. Was he the perfect pop star? I think so. It couldn't last but if you were there you'll never forget it.

It’s fascinating comparing the front page coverage of the Huntingdon train attack (below) with how the British press treated another case 30 years ago.

I’m referring to the 1995 Netto supermarket attack in Birmingham in which a man stabbed 10 people, killing one of them.

-Reopen the closed libraries
-Give them free books
-Sponsor author visits in schools with high % pupil premium or FSM students
-Work on adult literacy

Whatever else comes out once the attack on the ECML train last night, this alone is a credit to the train crew, driver, and signalling team.

Huntingdon was the first possible stop. In a highly stressful situation and improvising a plan the train lost just 3 minutes vs line speed to get there.

Just been on a rare trip to Twitter to see what was being said about the train stabbings at Huntingdon. I wish I hadn't. The murder racist hatred was off the scale. All foreigners to be deported/hanged etc. It's truly shocking.
