we've had years now of the far right railing against the concept of empathy, not just an emotion shared by decent people, not just a basic human survival instinct, but an instinct of every social animal species on the planet for countless millions of years

We've been calling them 'words.'
But here's the thing: that's not quite tadashii.

A kotoba isn't a word.
They're something else entirely-
a role unique to Japanese gengo.
And there's no eigo no kotoba that surus it seigi.

So from ima on, wareware tsukau the hontou no kotoba: kotoba.

Hi folks, I'm seeing a lot of "Eyes on Minneapolis" & "We support Minnesota" sentiment. Here's a tangible way you can help:

Trump just suspended federal funding for SNAP benefits to Minnesota. Second Harvest Heartland is an MN-based hunger-relief org.

Please donate what you can.

There is more than enough food for everyone. As one of the nation’s largest hunger relief agencies, it’s our job to make sure healthy, nutritious food gets to the households who need it. Every day, we...

Jonathan Ross, who shot Renee Good in the face, is local. Derek Chauvin, who knelt on George Floyd's neck, is local.
State and local law enforcement know the communities they serve. They’ve built the trust and know how to keep us safe.

As Minnesotans express their first amendment rights, I encourage you to remain peaceful and know that local law enforcement has one goal in mind: your safety.

This is the thing.

Does Frey actually have command over his police?

Why then are they not enforcing valid trespass orders?

Why, then, are they spending more time breaking up protests than protecting our neighbors from masked thugs snatching people on the street?
The elephant in the room is that mayors and governors across the country have very good reason to question the loyalty and allegiances of the state and local police forces and that’s one of the impediments to doing anything about the current occupations

Apropos of nothing, AI to me is mainly a labor issue. It’s not the ONLY important facet, but I think the most addressable. Even if the claims of increased productivity are 100% right, anyone who’s been in the workforce knows that the reward for getting your work done is to get more work.

"The plan is simple: We'll hire concept artists to make art to train our AI model so that we can then use the AI model to generate concept art." Do you fucking think before you speak, you blithering fucking donkey brain nitwit?
Larian CEO says Divinity could have gen AI assets in it but only if the tools are trained on the studio's own data.

"If we use a GenAI model to create in-game assets, then it'll be trained on data we own."

Minnesotan politicians' special move is saying one kinda agreeable thing one time that makes people out of state go Yes Sir Thank You Sir you Are The Leader We Need In This Moment and then in an explicitly Trump-approved move, calling in the national guard to do more violence on citizens

the term "content creator" served it's purpose very well. conditioning people into seeing everyone as anyone and everything as anything, mostly among the ruling class who found it most convenient for their pockets. in that sense, generating slop is the final result of content creation
the enthusiasm for generative AI would not have been possible without prior decades of capitalist conditioning to view works of art as products, rather than acts of culture and shared human life
I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact it’s the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.
