Bluesky has genuinely revived my love for science communication online. After watching the same posts go nowhere on Twitter, seeing them resonate here has been such a good reminder of why I do this. Thanks for being here 🖤

The thing about measles is that it’s the only known virus that triggers immune amnesia - it causes your immune system to forget everything it has previously learned. Meaning you essentially reset to zero and are now at risk of basically everything.

It can take 2-3 years to get immunities back.

If you aren't always wearing a respirator, make sure your life is set up such that you always have one with you. This shouldn't happen to anyone, and masks should be mandatory in all healthcare settings.
so 3 days after i drove someone to the emergency room and waited for 6 hours i am now coming down with something awful and i have to tell you if you go to the emergency department healthy and come out sick there is a fundamental problem with your system!!!

Well now, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

A Phase I trial of a vaccine targeting triple-negative breast cancer demonstrated safety and induced immune responses in most participants, supporting further clinical evaluation.
Phase I trial finds breast cancer vaccine triggers an immune response and is safe
Cleveland Clinic researchers are presenting final Phase I data from their novel study of a vaccine aimed at preventing triple-negative breast cancer, the most aggressive and lethal form of the disease.

Day 9 of my 2025 Favorites: Habronattus alachua (again)

I think this species has featured in every one of my favorites run-downs, and I can't help it. They're perfect: the floof and crimson red face of the boys, and the stripy eye makeup on the lasses ❤️

We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

A team of 43 scientists says pesticide and plastic regulation needs a major overhaul. Full commercial formulations—often containing petrochemical waste and heavy metals—can be far more toxic than the tested active ingredients.

They call for stricter limits, full-formulation testing, & public data.

It's also time to stop using the naturopathic term "natural immunity" and replace it with "disease-acquired immunity" to emphasise all of its disadvantages.
A study on 1.7 million people in Hong Kong shows superior hybrid immunity to Covid in people who got vaccinated before infection vs. people who got infected first. "Our findings are a direct rebuttal to arguments for natural immunity," the authors write. doi.org/10.1016/j.va...

Al Gore is right
we're using Earth's atmosphere as "an open sewer for the gaseous pollution that we're pumping into it every single day".

"It now traps as much extra heat every day as would be released by 750,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding on the Earth every day."

Owls and cavity-nesting birds lose their homes when old trees are cleared. 🌳 Each fallen tree supports nests, insects, and ecosystems. Habitat loss from construction and deforestation displaces many animals. Leave dead trees standing where safe — they’re life towers for wildlife. 🦉
