I am a PhD student at Brown University. As our community is still in the middle of this crisis, there are ways to help that go beyond thoughts and prayers.

A friend who works at RIBC said there is an urgent need for blood donations. In RI? Sign up to donate blood to RIBC: www.ribc.org/donate-blood/

I finished a final early this afternoon, met my partner and daughter for a burger near campus, and then dropped my daughter off at a friend’s house. Then I got a text that there was an active shooter on campus. My classmates began to check in to see if everyone was safe.

If you want to help the Brown University community, donate blood.

Donations in NYC, KC, MN, Nebraska, or Delaware will supply Rhode Island and the Brown Community.

Update from Brown University at 6:05 pm. The shooter is not in custody and the campus is an active crime scene. Keep sheltering in place and pray for victims.

Brown University is asking the campus to continue to shelter in place as of 6:10pm. #brownshooting

As of 6pm students were still sheltering in place and the situation is ongoing. Stay safe, shelter in place and and let law enforcement do their job.
Even though President Trump says a suspect is in custody, Brown University just sent out an alert urging people to continue to shelter in place as the situation is ongoing.

Brown University is NOT saying, yet, that a suspect is in custody.

I am a student at Brown University. There is an active shooting situation on campus. While some news sites have reported the suspect in custody this is not true. At 5:51 EST the school said the situation is ongoing and to keep sheltering in place. We’ve heard lots of emergency responders.

One man’s violence does not justify deporting all Afghan refugees.
🎁 link to the WSJ editorial that made Stephen Miller so mad.

"It would be a shame if this single act of betrayal became the excuse for deporting all Afghan refugees...

"Thousands are building new lives here in peace. Collective punishment won’t make America safer."

The alleged shooting by an Afghan ‘partner’ shouldn’t condemn all who assisted the U.S. and now live here.

And I did not speak out
Because Canvas was down and that was fine by me.

Then they came for Cloudflare
And I did not speak out
Because I didn't need the textbook website.

Then they came for GitHub
And there were no more internet services

A new edition of the UNEP's Emissions Gap Report is out. It shows countries making little progress in ramping up ambition, and the very low likelihood of current commitments limiting warming to 1.5 degrees.

We're probably avoiding 3 degrees, but there's much more to do. www.unep.org/resources/em...

It is worth saying that putting “Africana studies” in scare quotes as if it’s a ridiculous concept is not a political argument. It’s just racism. “Africa is not worthy of a major” is the implication. Yeah dude you’re just racist. (From Gerard Baker at the WSJ today)

I want to see more faith leaders publicly speaking out like this.
REV. BLACK (who was shot in the head with a pepper ball): “If this is what they’re doing to pastors, journalists, teachers, mothers, and the elderly gathered to sing and pray outside ICE facilities… what might they be doing to our neighbors who are behind those walls?”

This is awful. Republicans hurting Americans including their constituents. Healthcare shouldn’t be a luxury accessible only to the wealthy.
Millions of Americans are already learning that their health insurance costs for 2026 are going way up.

I want to hear from you so we can make this impossible for the GOP to ignore the consequences of their policies.

If your premiums are going up, reply below and please share your story.
