Honestly if NZ parties don’t front up about their plans for climate & basic infrastructure we should be deeply ashamed -NZ has a sewerage crisis in all our major cities, we have flooding & landslides causing loss of life & critical failure s- thinking we can cap rates & manage this, is crazy

Just watching @tvnz.bsky.social news and they just said we were the biggest spender on infrastructure between 2010-2019. Sitting in Christchurch I wonder why (hint Earthquakes). As and aside - we need a wealth tax and the old ministry of works

This feels very relevant in light of tonight's poll. No, NZ isn't the US yet but the trend of 'Keep writing about them like they're normal while they're dismantling the country' rings very true #nzpol
One way of identifying democratic backsliding is that "ordinary politics" stories like this coexist with stories like this one (www.nbcnews.com/politics/ele...) or this one (www.reuters.com/legal/govern...) or this one (cnn.com/2026/02/13/p...) which are each obviously, wildly autocratic

I've written 3 articles defending different Green Party MPs with pleasure in the last year and a half, because it's about fairness and context.

I respect that everyone has diff political views, including those who prefer the RW, but judging it in context is what I value most #nzpol #kiwi

Interesting question. If the current (Trump’s) USA was a different country to the old USA - how far back would the old USA be before it had a Cold War against Trumps USA?

Hostile corporate takeover of the USA.
This is why NZ needs to vote very carefully.
We genuinely need to vote pro- community and anti- global corporates.

Which means we need to vote Green. If the “mood of the boardroom” says turn right - we turn left. Boardrooms are fucking killing us all.

That $6 billion climate resilience fund would be useful right now if NATIONAL HADN’T SCRAPPED IT!

At least the landlords got their handouts though.

It beggars belief that these people, who more than likely vote National & ACT and whinge about their rates, seem to have no idea where the extra money to save their business is to come from. Let’s use the phrase “wasteful spending” on them & see how they like it

Why not spend $2.7b on solar & batteries instead?

I am also going to vote for the party that will investigate any NZ connections to the Epstein File (or Panama papers)

I know this is about the press conference that Labour held, but also funny to read this with the firm belief that Labour being more progressive instead of centrist at best will be the only thing that wins them the election - and the hint of fear in the headline may indicate others believe that, too.

This is at the heart of right wing extremism across the world. They see brown kids as just bad people waiting to grow up. They also see young girls as the women they will turn into. They are happy to assault children because they see what they want to see and not what is actually in front of them. 😞
These people are so sick. They are driven by absolutely the most depraved motivations and have no business anywhere near government service. This rises to the level of official oppression, which is a federal crime usually investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by the DOJ.

I would also suggestion, particularly in Aotearoa that has elections this year, we vote for the govt that says they won’t deal with child rapists. Or countries that don’t hold abusers accountable.
