“can you recommend an alternative?” no. that’s why I’m so fucking angry. we fucked it. we’re no longer capable of making online chat protocols or web browsers or discussion forum software that people actually want to use. it’s all shit. every choice is either proprietary and exploitative or awful open source garbage sucking all the air out of all alternatives and forks, operated by fucking terrible people. we let this happen.

i think whatever replaces Discord should let us move little avatars around. this has nothing to do with my "bring physicality to social media" agenda i just think it'd be a good rational sensible thing to have. oh yeah and give them little pixel art outfits & items too (my breath gets heavier,)

It could be really bad for Discord if Californians contact the office of the Attorney General to report the potential violations of CCPA and CALOPPA citing the recent breach from a few months back where 1.5tb of user data and millions of IDs were leaked, but who can say for sure?

Like, it's not just payment companies bending the knee to Trump/Christofascists; this is happening all over the world. It's obviously a large scale effort; it's hit multiple websites and industries en masse. Is there some pending litigation so big they need to move mountains? Who benefits here?
