My general observation after years of working on learning-related topics across a lot of contexts is that people are not lazy, are curious, are prone to many effort-illusions about learning (eg easy = good but also hard = good when it isn't), are capable of growing metacognition

Agree. One thing that I really liked about @jpspencer.bsky.social’s Labour Together report is it included culture in “growth spending”. So much policy about regional development in the UK basically regards culture, tourism, etc. as distractions from the real work of building trains to nowhere.

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.
