I guess we can take the "pre" out and just say "order". I learned Asterism is now shipping copies of *Becoming Altar*! So go ahead and grab one, maybe a few to give as holiday gifts! Some people who don't usually read poetry like this book. (My family. Go figure.)

Remember our joy pop-up? It’s going to keep popping. We’re permanently opening subs for flashes of joy (well, as permanent as anything, which is not very but you get the idea). If we love it and it’s joyful we’ll add it to the issue. Like a little library of joy.

A note by @anthonyframe.bsky.social on Threads reminded me: November deadlines. Are not in my budget due to the adding up of submission fees. I know it’s an evil empire, but Google forms or just email would work fine. I’ve used email as an editor just fine.

The title made me curious and my goodness, it’s an AI slop illustrated journal where “form is not a cage but a cathedral” and “rhyme is not outdated but resurrected”. Sounds welcoming and not incel or white supremacist coded at all.

NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

It's better than when I was little. They don't dress in Native costume. It's heavier on history than patriotic mythology. And the focus is on reading aloud.

And now some food.
I'm at the 7 yo's Thanksgiving presentation and feast.
10 lbs of potatoes peeled, cut, and in the pot. Now for coffee

By no means am I an expert, I am actually kind of dumb. But being at a fuckin' coal mine for 12 years is what made me want to be a socialist. It wasn't reading theory. It was the experience of being a working person in rural America.

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

I'm going insane because people constantly recommend using AI for things and it is always, ALWAYS worse than repeatedly bashing my head on a brick.

It's like you have an actual problem & all anyone recommends is "have you tried talking to my cousin? He drinks bleach & doesn't wash his pants"

I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.

Which says exactly zero about the existence or non-existence of an actual Supreme Being outside our brains
