6 lives…so far. History lover (esp. American), science lover, attorney, mother, local activist, former actor-producer. So much to learn; so little time. New Orleans—a curse and a blessing.
The whole purpose is to build a case justifying Emergency War Powers Act. This plus sending troops into more cities (“to support & defend ICE/BP agents”) is all advance action to undermine or disrupt the MidTerm Elections. (More probably Vought than Miller)
I also have been assuming that the primary purpose of this conflict is domestic
I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along

I’m surprised. Very.
All of us sometimes think stupid things, but we don't say them out loud (let alone publish them in the NY Times).
“The mind-set shift needed here is to acknowledge that while climate change is real and harmful, the utility of fossil fuels is not something the oil and gas industry tricked the public into,” Matthew Yglesias writes.

Many of us warned - repeatedly - before it occurred that the Iraq war would be a huge and fatal shift. We were ignored or shouted down. But I don't think any of us realised just how many monsters would come through the breach. 3/3 www.monbiot.com/category/war...

So 50% is owned by ByteDance and basically ByteDance affiliates. Oh that should make a difference.

HE SHOULD NOT BE PRESIDENT.

For every possible reason.

We need to call our #GOP reps in such numbers tomorrow that they know they’re in quicksand with him:

Wait.... Is that ballroom model getting bigger every new meeting?

This one is as big as the White House and the Wing.

NCAR manages the Wyoming Supercomputing Center, where researchers from other institutions have access to high-performance computing resources (most recently Cheyenne and now Derecho) to model weather, climate, wildfires, air pollution, etc. Everyone is less safe if NCAR is dismantled.

I don’t know yet if I will convert to GiveWell but for SURE I will be thinking more deeply about how and why I donate.
Today’s episode of The Ezra Klein Show.

Elie Hassenfeld, the chief executive of the nonprofit GiveWell, makes the case for a more rigorous, transparent and accountable approach to charitable giving.

Here's our reporting on the proposed dismantling of the jewel of US atmospheric science, @ncar-ucar.bsky.social.

The plan is to break NCAR apart and disburse some parts to other locations (like the research aircraft fleet) and eliminate others.

Give this a scan. This is what science in progress looks like—scattershot but significant findings, calling out for more investigation, which could be very, very important. Exciting.
