Minneapolis renter. Plural/non-binary adult (they/them pronouns) on the autistic spectrum that seeks to learn and improve each day. Wants more accessible spaces without requiring a car.

Forced to use this new account: old one may be compromised.

ICE is not law enforcement. They are immigration enforcement. They don’t have any right to tell US citizens what to do. They aren’t even legally authorized to perform traffic stops.

Struggling to sleep on this business trip. Wish I was back in Minneapolis. This detector that occasionally blinks white does NOT help.

If any private lawyer acted this disrespectfully towards a federal judge, we would be facing bar proceedings, court sanctions or both. The fact that Trump administration lawyers continue to act this way is a disgrace. It is time for judges to put an end to it. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The most radical thing this city has done since 2020 is actually get to know each other.

Outside is the good place, it’s where my neighbors are.
My Minnesota husband is making new friends out on patrol.

Not someone he’s known since kindergarten. ‼️

I don’t think people understand the tectonic plates have shifted here.

A big THANK YOU to our employee Lacy as well as Kaleb Lutterman, and the local 3D printing makers who've been keeping us supplied with anti-ICE whistles.

And thank you to everyone who's stopped by to pick one up! You're making a huge difference in this very difficult time.

I need to point out for people who aren't from Minneapolis: the guy stomping around in the orange hat and jacket emblazoned with "EHB" on the back is Eric Harris Bernstein, member of the Board of Estimate and Taxation. Eric is our city's lowest ranking and least respected elected official.

Folks are asking for advice on if the new MN paid leave act could be used to help folks unable to work right now.

We know it's only eligible when folks have a "qualifying life event."

We all wonder... does a federal invasion counts as a qualifying life event?

If you haven't been in this spot before, think about how weird it would be to rely on someone else to get you such basics, to help with sensitive things like laundry. It's AWKARD to ask for.

So break the awkwardness a bit by opening up the door with specific suggestions to show what you can do.
Mpls: If you are working to support neighbors right now I *highly* suggest avoiding the generic "let me know what you need" and instead asking/offering directly:

"I'm going to the store. Send me a list."

"Do you need shampoo? Fruit? Toilet paper?"

"Can I help with your laundry?"

This silly story reminds me:

If you don't know how to help, find people who are already helping and give a direct offer to support their efforts.

My mom made my day w/ this offer (not just the candy delivery) and I didn't think to ask her even though she's asked repeatedly if/how she can help. 🤪
