Professional: climate change law and policy with a heavy dose of science to back it up.

Personal: was once described as "a wood nymph who escaped the forest".
I think of Bojack Horseman often because it was such a tremendously profound piece of art, but sometimes I just think of the sillier moments. Like when I need to focus on something and my brain goes on a little side quest to laugh about Bojack spending time picking out fonts. And the vacuums.

I wonder how long I'll be sad about the Mini being taken away.

Received two emails today where I've been subscribed to mailing lists through people or organizations where I applied for jobs. Feels especially gross because both were instances where I was ghosted in the process.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow.

The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.

Individual carbon footprint messaging? Not only is it the product of a decades-old deflection strategy by polluters, it doesn't actually work from a climate action standpoint.
This is just one of many important climate messaging findings in our new @pnas.org study led by @asinclair.bsky.social:

It's sad to know US scientists invented the most sophisticated weather forecasting models in the world, the satellites and instruments to measure atmospheric conditions, and an advanced alert system to warn the public of coming disasters, and the Trump administration is destroying it all.

This has a mild amount of stupid mixed with “sure!” and rounded off with a big “why not?”

This is playing safe. I may go more extreme after this one.

I genuinely believe that the salute was a pulse check to see what they’ll be able to get away with, and the media seems to be letting them know it’s everything.

Don’t let your craven non-confrontational nature allow you to ignore the obvious (hand) signs.

In the coming days/months/years, don’t “yuck on people’s yum” here if you can avoid it. I know it feels trite seeing folks post their cute cats or jokes with friends in the midst of horrors unfolding.

Pure joy is self-ownership; an act of resistance.

Embrace joy.

Because of Certain Stuff Today, I'm spending the day leaning the other way and reposting all the science stories that blew my mind since I started writing my newsletter - beginning with this one, because my thread about it went massively viral on Twitter & gave me a new career.

A while back I learned something mindblowing about the geological history of the Mediterranean Sea, and I just can't get it out of my head.

Now I'm going to make it *your* problem too. Sorry.

Hang onto your hat. This is wild.
