I've been holding off on this for months, but with this new court order to pay more than I'm making until the divorce is finalized, I don't know what else to do. I just need to hold out for a few months so I can get to safety and finally start over.

If you're a new indie author getting started, I have two things to tell you.
1. You will likely sell more ebooks than print. My werewolf ebooks have massively outsold print.
2. Print books are still worth setting up for your readers who will want them. Invest that time if you can.

100% this.
If you can't find joy in the act of writing, and feel euphoria after editing several drafts into exactly what your thoughts had in mind (or close to it), then I really suggest you don't become a writer.
The idea, the thoughts, are nothing without execution. The work is the thing.

Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

Last year they unveiled a neon sign that said "MAIN CHARACTER ENERGY", which has been exclusively a derogatory term in my head since 2020.
Doing that thing where I catch back up on Target news to see how the company’s doing and found out that they released these hoodies and then quickly pulled them from their website after, like, a day

I don't know why the starting goal was ridiculous, but it's fixed to just what I'm being asked to pay this month. (I wish the graphic would update.)
I'm working with my credit union's financial planner this week to try and chart a potential future that doesn't involve me maxing out my credit cards.

There's a whole generation that learned irony before sincerity and now they're trapped. Can't be earnest without a layer of self-deprecation. Can't be enthusiastic without signaling awareness of how cringe enthusiasm is.

To frame this perfectly: the internal quarterly messaging this year has been "we have no idea why you feel so abandoned by us" followed by "here's platitudes on how to handle being overworked" and then "here's how to handle your teammates having meltdowns".
Now it's just "...you should smile more."
Now it's just "...you should smile more."
Speaking as a customer if I encountered this kind of behavior regularly I would never, ever come back. It's bad enough being perceived by the cashier.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.
They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.
If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."
🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

I walked past the group and sat with people I trust.
One aunt (who has talked transphobic shit behind my back in the past) came up to hug me and wanted to make sure I knew that "I don't have a problem with you."
I wasn't sure how to respond, but it pretty clearly came from a heartfelt place.

There might be a few transphobic relatives at the event I'm going to tonight.
They might not have seen me for a few years.
I might have dressed with the intent to show off.

Autistic Burnout isn’t about being tired.
It’s what happens when you’ve spent years pretending the world doesn’t hurt.
Your body finally says “no more”.
It’s not weakness - it’s your nervous system’s truth catching up.
It’s more a return, albeit a hard one, than a crash.

I just starred The Outer Worlds 2. I'm a Dumb, Lucky, Suave Roustabout, meaning that I have no idea how I got my job.
She has no idea what she's doing, can't stealth, won't fight in melle because she might break a nail, and has no clue what these complex gizmos do.
I made a bimbo.
10/10 goty. 🤣

Even more accurately: you ARE somewhat *allowed* to terrorize people, by which I mean you will not be incarcerated or have your health care or identification taken away or anything else these people try to do to others unlike them.
You will just be known as someone who revels in terrorizing others.

I have a lot of fondness for my past self, who made a lot of mistakes and was pretty consistently miserable and not that fun to be around, but who really tried to be good while playing life on hardcore mode.
My past self exists in the past with me as a dream within her. My current self exists in the present, with her as a memory within me.

it is very telling, to me, that this place has a “Rude” label built-in when one of the things the right wing has weaponized so much online is “polite” bigotry and hate
So when a member of a marginalized group pushes back strongly against that “polite” hate, they get labeled “rude” or banned.

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Something worth noting: Rockstar is leaning HEAVILY on the excuse that the unionising employees were "leaking private company information"
They want people to assume this means game info or assets.
