Agree. We need a total redesign. I graduated a moon ago when it was cheaper and have paid off my loans etc but now I’m 20+ years into my career and well paid I’d happily pay a graduate tax to allow younger generations to access affordable education behind me.
The student loan system is just an incredibly badly designed graduate tax.

Oh for any government with the courage to call it out & redesign it to be at least logical.

But you can’t say that young people are your top priority if you freeze student loan thresholds whilst protecting the triple lock

I might ask my football team (the mighty Boro) to award me with a peace prize because I managed to come away from the Christmas market without a helium balloon and a four year old who was only momentarily pissed off. That’s how this all works, right?

My little one is at Rainbows and I received the email about trans girls no longer being able to join. It’s made me so sad and angry. I can’t imagine as a child feeling that maybe you don’t fit in, finding a kind, safe space like guiding and then being told you legally cannot be part of that.

Why are trains so expensive? I hate it, particularly as my rail job isn’t really about fares. They immediately regret asking though as I delve into the history of setting fares in a declining market, comparative cost per km costs and policy choices on taxpayer v farepayer burden.
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Would watch
As I’ve said many times, I wish Belinda Carlisle would host an antiques show called ‘Ooh Baby, Do You Know What That’s Worth?”.

Got a last minute invite to a ball (ooh yeah get me) and I’m mostly upset at the moment that the only appropriate dresses don’t look good on me anymore and what I actually need is Lucy & Yak evening wear. Dress dungarees if you will.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Imagine being envious of people with disabilities because they might get something that liberates them and may also be a smidge better than bare minimum. Imagine being so envious you campaign to take away choice and freedom. Think we should get bumper sticker made “take my car, take my disability”
Don’t want to be too moralistic about this, but it is an active disgrace what people are doing to a profoundly liberational scheme that costs relatively piddling amounts on the basis of a couple of right wing shitposters misrepresenting it on Twitter.

Decided I can’t let being single stop me from doing what I want. So solo roast in my lovely local with my notebook scribbling ideas. Watching a silent couple I’m reminded that loneliness can still occur even when in a partnership and I must stay strong and enjoy how things how they are.

Game of Wool is frustrating - and I have similar feeling about the same format with sewing/pottery/baking. I like these shows but I want to see people do things brilliantly, not bodging their way through because of time. Give them longer and let me enjoy beautiful things. I don’t need the drama 😂
