After a document leak from DHS outed him, Enrique Tarrio, head of the Proud Boys militia group, acknowledged that he was now an ICE officer. www.telemundo.com/noticias/not...

Tarrio, quien recibió un indulto de Trump por su participación en el asalto al Capitolio en 2021, fue detenido un mes después de su liberación por un cargo de agresión en Washington D.C.

Seizure ... by whom? If we're asserting that the money is safer in Qatar than the US, that suggests that it is being protected because Qatar has something the US lacks — presumably a lack of accountability to American courts and Congress. www.semafor.com/article/01/1...

Netanyahu's distaste for diasporic Jews may have reached the point where he's happy to stoke antisemitism among The Nations so as to drive more Jews "home". But mostly I think it's just fascists loving other fascists.

Many of you have become drama-addicted doomers, and you seem to think it's important for the rest of us to join you.

Yes, things are bad. But change is within our power. Grow up. Act like sober, responsible adults in a democracy instead of cynical, all-is-lost teenagers.

Now get off my lawn.

It's a new day, and that means a new batch of Verge articles are completely free to read (until tomorow).

First up, from @joshdzieza.bsky.social: The world’s largest encyclopedia became the factual foundation of the web, but now it’s under attack.

My three kids, born in South Korea and China, became U.S. citizens upon adoption under the Child Citizen Act of 2000. Because of increasingly obscure differences in adoption from different countries the two older kids, from South Korea, also went through a citizenship acknowledgement process./1

Even with all of the important caveats, Mamdani’s win was a blow against the old Democratic way of doing things — and against the old Democrats who run the party. Gift link: wapo.st/44zuWyC
Opinion | The Democrats’ generational rift just got harder to ignore
Maybe the party should consider abandoning its cautious old ways.

Since it is Juneteenth, I will share a lil something...

My ancestors were slaves in Texas & were freed on June 19, 1865. They came together to meet with other ex-slaves & formed the Limestone County 19th of June Organization. They bought 30 acres of land on Lake Mexia.

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels
"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions
Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.

My work here is done
President Trump is leveraging his role as commander-in-chief in a much clearer and more urgent way than during his first term — whether that’s showing off the military in a parade or using it to quell protests.
From Los Angeles to Washington, Trump leans in as commander in chief
On one coast, military forces are arriving by the thousands to defend federal buildings and agents. On the other, they’re readying a celebration of American military might.

I wrote about the Musk/Trump beef. Probably an attention contest without precedent. It’s worth asking what 'winning' even looks like here. But I get the sense that, whatever happens...we all lose. But in the interim the content is tremendous. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...
