A massive storm that brought a record storm surge to Alaska was poorly forecast, and “this is one of the clearest possible examples to date where missing upper air soundings due to NWS constraints may have led to a degraded forecast.”
Sunday a massive storm surge event from the remnants of Typhoon Halong caused catastrophic damage in remote western Alaska. Thanks to @alaskawx.bsky.social for his help with this deep dive, including the forecast challenges in an area dealing with reduced NWS upper air soundings

As someone who spent many hours listening to Kirk’s show on AM radio, I would say that he made Rush Limbaugh seem like Walter Cronkite by comparison, in terms of rhetorical tone and empirical rigor. The subtext of every show was “You don’t hate the left enough.”

Today, the president threatened to militarily occupy numerous American cities without authorization or rationale.

He was also praised by a notorious child sex trafficker, with whom he obviously cut a deal, to cover up evidence he sexually abused kids.

The GOP is united behind him.

The entire business model of R1 public universities rests on 4 revenue sources:

1. Federal grants
2. Private gifts/endowments
3. Tuition (esp. from foreign students)
4. State $

For decades, 📈 in 1-3 offset a secular 📉 in 4. Now, 1 & 3 are being decimated & 4 ain't coming back. The math is clear.

Trumpism has proven the Jamie Dimons of the world are nihilists at heart. They don't care about anything, not America, democracy, law, nor even capitalism. All their chest-puffing about the importance of free markets, liberty, and prosperity gone instantly in favor of an aging addled authoritarian.
if i were a pro-trump financial type i might view the destruction of reliable government data with the kind of anger and apprehension that might lead me to reevaluate my politics, but then if i’m a financial guy throwing my weight behind strongman rule, i’m already too stupid to breathe

folks whose ancestors committed actual treason against this country are "more American"--merely by virtue of the fact of having said treasonous ancestors--than ... his own wife.
JD Vance is suggesting that neo-Nazis and the descendents of confederate soldiers have more claim to being part of this nation because they're white than immigrants who believe in the Declaration of Independence.

This kind of blood and soil nationalism is indistinguishable from classic fascism.
