Trans woman. Mother of grown people. Chicagoan forever, long term Portlander. Writer-ish. And all at 43! ;)
I enjoyed this essay, and seek out any discussion and analysis of the earlier trans Internet I can. And every time I read something like this I’m still hoping they’ll talk about Auntie Jenny and the AntiJen email list. (even if I never quite plucked my eyebrows the way that she wanted me to)
Some counterprogramming, in a world gone mad:

Trans people have found one another on the internet since the 1980s. This fascinating reported story looks at early internet communities for trans people, how they've changed and evolved, and what doesn't change.

OK nerds, ANNOUNCEMENT
I have a book coming out this May with @sevenstories.bsky.social!

it is called

The Dinner Party: A Book about Love"

it's a collection of five sequences or stories, all in verse. They are about different kinds of love. You can pre-order it here, if you are so minded.

So in terms of when to expect more of this, I need to get 20 authors that WERE NOT featured on this list, but there will likely be some repeat authors from here, they just do not count towards my 20. So far I have 1/20, soon to be 2/20. I will aim to do these more than once a year-
solomonskalozub.blogspot.com/2025/12/tran... I threw this together as an easier reference for people looking for *something* featuring transmasculinity. I will eventually get back to doing essays for each individual media I mention here, but I felt this may aid people in finding the story they need!

Revisiting this because I found two other teenage Katie photos (they are very rare) (sadly you can’t see what a disaster my hair is under the hat in the first one haha and the second one is glitter damaged and I’m making a weird face, oh well)

The skull/monkey is here, because it’s a monoprint-drawing. Check out this gallery, it doesn’t get many views:

I finally did it, you guys, I finished the update to my fucking writing app and pushed it live 😭

The period of stagnation with StimuWrite is over, I have a lot of plans and I'm hoping to grow the app to make a more sustainable side-income with it 🤞

The base app will always be free though!

Watched Return of the Living Dead 3 for the first time because of @willowcatelyn.bsky.social’s newsletter. Resurrected a memory of being 16 and watching one of my Chicago Lesbian Avenger friends get a series of surface piercings.

I love both my adult children and I’m very glad they exist, but if you ask my advice (which mostly you didn’t) I would say have either one or zero children so that they don’t live on opposite coasts. This is Not Fun or Healthy. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do, tbh.

does anyone have recommendations of academic journals that regularly publish reviews of books of *film criticism*, that are quality journals but also very open to pitches/submissions from ""early career scholars"" with no publication history?

(This is a personal story and not an opinion about the topic of the week)
When I was 16 in Chicago I spent some nights sleeping in a Lesbian Avenger’s room in a co-op house. One night I got up to get water and ran into this twenty something cis guy grad student. He wanted to ask me something.

Can we maybe try and talk to Wachowskis into taking a crack at a Jem and the Holograms movie? The 2015 one tried to be “realistic,“ and that is ridiculous. Jem needs the Speed Racer treatment.

At Camp Trans 99 I wore a camo vest every day (because it was the camo vest I wore every day the year I was 17) and wow does my youngest kid look way cooler than I did back then wearing it to orientation at art school. I’m really glad I saved it.

It is easy to feel this way but I truly think, for trans writers at least, writing books now is urgent. Write good books about your friends, get them printed, get them widely distributed, get them in the world. There has never before been an opportunity like the one we currently possess to do this.
is there anything more pointless right now that writing a book? feels that way to me
