Watching a catchy YouTube shitpost & realizing that the TV's have become bigger, better & cheaper for the same price, but the 4K blu-ray players that'd drive those sets to their fullest are more expensive than the TVs, plus many shows are only ever on streaming, never legitimately ownable forever.
Hell, if anything, the smartphone & dirt cheap huge TVs have dramatically covered for the fact many don't have the money to spend on anything besides a rent, or if they're lucky, a mortgage. Most have endless portable entertainment, but may not be able to spare money for a CD or DVD a month.
yes, I feel like you can safely ignore anyone who tells you with a straight face in 2025 that you can just do without a smartphone

Quintessential screwball Daffy Duck.

Clampett cemented that loony take on that iconic Looney Tunes character.
More Looney Tunes ALWAYS good!

Literally any laptop you'd develop game on would have a good enough mic for that. Using some maxxed out desktop? Record with your Bluetooth earbuds or your cellphone. Audio a little nasty? Audacity is free. I've recorded the narration for workplace presentations on a $60 cellphone. It's so easy.
"we used AI to test voice lines but there isn't any in the final game" okay but you could have just recorded a coworker or something. You have voices. Why is everything so disappointing

Kind of them to drop this news over the long shopping weekend in the US such that the markets might not get it until Tuesday.
big late breaking news: the market monitor for the largest energy grid in the u.s., covering much of the midwest and mid-atlantic, has called to block new data centers connections to the grid, saying current course of growth assures regular blackouts
No more PJM data centers unless they can be reliably served: market monitor
The PJM Interconnection’s market monitor urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to rule that large data centers can only come online if the grid operator can still meet reliability metrics.

This, a million times over. Please tell people when you like their work. Creatives can go a very long time without any outside input at all, positive or otherwise, so a gesture of appreciation often makes all the difference in the world.
Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

Canada still does that: it's a shame they don't export them as hard as they used to. Shows like TallBoyz & Baroness von Sketch Show should be better known in the US. The BlackBerry movie was also recut as an even better 3 episode miniseries.

Again, CBC Gem needs to be an international service.
Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

That's why City is probably AOTY, if not one of the best shows of 2025 full stop, and will also be in the best of the decade discussion. Doing "nothing" beautifully and compellingly is its own amazing and precious art form.
More people should try cozy, do-nothing shows. Sometimes I'm tired of "lore" and intense drama. Sometimes ya girl needs to eat chips and veg out.

No particular hot take like this week, the OP image just reminds me that I need to retrieve the CCS cel I left at my parents' along with a bunch of other personal anime effects.
Friends, #weebwednesday is upon us once again! You know the drill - quote-post with your weebiest hot takes, nothing racist, nothing intentionally inflammatory, have fun with it ♥

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it.

Everyone, give

This article makes really good points about the inability of most people to cut expenses without entirely losing the ability to participate in the economy. I get tired of people telling me to live cheaper by eliminating things that are necessary for modern life.

CBC Gem should be competing internationally for the same audience as Dropout & Criterion. It's not like Canada's tax credits don't create jobs, as they do so even in the new creator economy, but they could be doing so, so much more than just keeping the local media oligopoly from bleeding out.
I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

Ahh yes we are “enabling” “artists” by giving them a button to push that randomly mashes a bunch of audio together that they can pretend they made. Here I am spending 20 hours on a song to get the vibe I want, but damnit it’s my song and my vibe.
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.

The screencapped post in the OP offends me by every possible metric. Thrift store & ewaste PCs have been able to run trackers for decades. Similarly cheap second hand instruments & boomboxes filled the gap before that. If you can access their expensive service, you can just use Audiotool for free.
