NEW: ICE has torn up its $180M cap on a proposed immigrant-tracking program and is now guaranteeing private surveillance firms at least $7.5M each, with potential payouts reaching $281M per vendor. The change signals a shift from “pilot” to full-scale outsourcing of street-level investigative work.

Andor, not a movie, is the best overall Star Wars product and everybody knows it
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

The CDC is not a reliable source of information. I expect medical associations to start adapting to this fact quickly and releasing statements.
New from me: I talked to CDC staffers about the new vaccines and autism page. They said things like:

“The best way I can put it is it feels like we’re on a hijacked airplane.”

“I think people are starting to see that we can’t fulfill our mission here.”
“Embarrassing” and “horrifying”: CDC workers describe the new vaccines and autism page

this is the peace plan we should be pushing

russia goes home and gets nothing. they learn from this that adventures in occupying neighbors has no benefit and only costs
Former Finnish PM Sanna Marin put it bluntly: “To end the conflict, Russia must leave Ukrainian territory.”

Just one point. Nothing more to discuss.

They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.
Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.

This seems bad. Like "Someone should go to jail, and it's not Comey" bad, but I know that's not how we treat DOJ agents who break the law.
Foreman told GJ coordinator that GJ rejected count 1 but approved counts 2 & 3 of 1st indictment. So govt drafted 2-count indictment which foreman signed. But 2-count indictment—the operational one—was never shown to full GJ.

Now I'm no lawyer, but I don't think you're allowed to do that.

Does that mean I get to be a US Attorney now?
NEWS: During a hearing in federal court in VA, prosecutors confirmed that the operative indictment in the case against James Comey was never shown to or voted on by the entire grand jury before it was presented in open court.

Defense counsel argued that’s a complete bar to further prosecution

The anti-vax movement has been immune to appeals for community health since its inception.

That’s why the U.S. has laws around childhood vaccines for school entry. We must do everything we can to prevent further slippage.

We’re going to lose our measles elimination status just as Canada has.

Dude names his company after a tool that twists the hearts and minds of pretty much all who use it in the story, and then gets upset that people think his company might be bad.

Truly a head-scratcher.

If your T&P committees aren't factoring in the funding mess that we're going through into their decisions, your committees are making a big mistake.

And if you're not willing to take it into account in your external T&P review letters, please decline requests to review.
and there it is. the absolutely massive change in R01s funded multi-year. our perceptions that the new mandate, sorry strong suggestion, has had a dramatic effect on forward funding and therefore success rates is validated.
2025

Here the largest fraction is for R01 awards, followed by RF1s, and R21s.

In most cases, these were R01s that had not particularly reason to be forward funded except that NIH had put itself in a situation when large amounts of funding needed to be committed by the end of the fiscal year
