@avindman.bsky.social I hope this is the kind of participatory campaign you’re planning!
We have a crisis of political agency.

But if you start asking people to do more than donate or knock doors they have more standing to demand policy and political reform.

Even a lot of otherwise decent electeds want a transactional rather than participatory relationship with their supporters.
100%. I honestly believe political leaders ask too little of people. The thinking is you need an extraordinarily low bar - so ask people for money or to sign something. People want to be part of something and they're eager to do real meaningful work in defense of their community and their rights.

Patel is such a tool. Like what, he jammed both mags in the pistol? So ignorant, no understanding of firearms at all. 2a folks must have some serious cognitive dissonance.

“No one who wants to be peaceful shows up at a protest with a firearm that is loaded with two full magazines,” Patel said.

Write better headlines @the-independent.com ! I know it’s a quotation. But “amateurish” is a politician saying she is deeply concerned and then doing nothing. Leading trump’s secret police and pushing to give them blanket immunity even if they murder civilians is a moral travesty.

This kills me. Play the videos in committee. Play the second by second NYT video analysis on the floor, in the hallways, make it unavoidable. So obvious, just like every dem should be organizing rotations to be out on the streets in Minneapolis in force. I expected more from @duckworth.senate.gov
Duckworth on Senate Republicans: "I gotta be honest with you. When I talk to a few of my colleagues, they had not even seen the videos. It's almost like they put blinders on. They're uneasy."

Stephen Miller: “Migrants and their descendants recreate the conditions, and terrors, of their broken homelands.”…[But] the “conditions and terrors” of immigrants’ “broken homelands” weren’t being re-created by immigrants. They were being re-created by people like Miller.

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

This puts to words exactly what I’ve been afraid of: Trump throw out just enough symbolic compliance that our trajectory doesn’t get the radical, meaningful change we need and deserve.
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.

Yup, this is straight up Brownshirt stuff now. If state politicians don’t comply, then the govt starts a terror campaign to kidnap and shooting people in your city. The quiet part out loud. Not even remotely about arresting criminals or law enforcement.
Bovino: "Choosing or making a choice is one of the only true freedoms any of us really have ... when as a politician you choose collusion & corruption as a choice, then there are consequences and actions that take place because of that. That's one reason CBP & ICE are here in Mpls by the thousands."

So, republicans are now ok with invading Greenland. There’s a new tripwire force of Danes, Swedes, Germans and I believe UK too. Worst of all for the 11th airborne or whoever gets the call, the Finns have a contingent there as well. Taking Greenland by force will not be a Venezuela cakewalk.

I had this thought too, not to mention the interplanetary travel 😂
we're getting all the downsides of cyberpunk (social alienation, ruthless hyper capitalism, digital mass surveillance state) but none of the promised upsides (cheap street food, cool jackets, super drugs that make you really fast and strong before they kill you)

This is beyond the pale. ICE is truly the worst of the worst. And I’m sure the address was served up to ICE by the infallible app the WH and maga cult is hyping as more accurate than a birth certificate.
Behind the disturbing image of ICE snatching a half-naked, elderly Hmong American from his home
DHS has claimed without evidence that they were looking for someone else when they took ChongLy Scott Thao.

We can't have another presidency like (or with the mindset) of Joe Biden.
There's no return to status quo normalcy the day after Trump (or Vance) is gone. That is only the start of a period, for some years, of reconstruction to establish a new constitutional settlement. And that means, by necessity, extraordinary measures not necessarily intended to be permanent features.
