Since 2016, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the fact that we gave Donald Trump control of nuclear weapons. I still have this unshakeable feeling that that’s going to be a bigger part of this story before it all ends.
A long-deranged and deeply depraved man with a pronouncedly and acceleratingly deteriorating mind announces that he intends to play with the large arsenal of nuclear weapons he controls.

But it's okay, because he's not seeking a third term.

I hereby coin a Perlstein's law: when a movement flushes out a critical mass of never-before activists-- like the Christian Right and BLM both did--serious possibilities for change open up.

We shall overcome.

This is what I've had the privilege to watch happening in Chicago:

A genuine social moment, so new and spontaneous (though not without antecedents and seedbeds) it doesn't even yet have a theory or "ideology." Just: people doing....

What Chuck Schumer should do is fucking retire. Let someone who doesn’t need a nap after thinking up this sick post lead for a while.
What Trump said is a fucking outrage.

It’s against democracy.

If Donald Trump has his way on this, our democracy is over.

Donald Trump is too boring of a figure - the Professional Libertarians walking around ass naked like this is where the action is.
i think that if the FCC threatened to revoke ABC’s license unless it replaced Jimmy Kimmel with Kevin Hart to diversify the network, Ilya Shapiro would be able to identify the issue here
This really is the final expression of "libertarianism" as it is practiced in the US today.

Illinois Gov. Pritzker vows to pursue Trump officials who participate in an illegal National Guard deployment to Chicago:

An optimistic read of the current moment is that the fecklessness of elected Democrats is causing Trump to massively overplay a pathetically weak hand. But that would still probably require the emergence of a Democratic leader.
Tense scene out here. People booing and shaming unidentified federal law enforcement as they stand in the middle of the street, posted to pull people over for random checks.

For most of my lifetime, if you are upper-middle class or wealthy, it has been possible to view politics in the mode of a football fan, with the primary consequence of elections being that your tax bill rises or falls by a few percentage points that you can afford either way. Not so much anymore.
