Dedicated cadres of small-d democrat, small-r republican people working extremely hard, in their neighborhoods, with history-making passion, to resist tyranny on the most basic, body-on-the-line level, the most important component being: MANY of the participants never having been activists before.

For most of my lifetime, if you are upper-middle class or wealthy, it has been possible to view politics in the mode of a football fan, with the primary consequence of elections being that your tax bill rises or falls by a few percentage points that you can afford either way. Not so much anymore.
