The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

I’m proud of the work we did on the House January 6th Committee.

January 6th should’ve been the end of a political movement based on a cult of personality, conspiracism, extremism & lies. Instead, it is now in power.

This harrowing @propublica story about the carnage created by Trump’s USAID cuts in South Sudan won’t get as much attention as his deranged Rob Reiner rant but they’re both stories about a president who just doesn’t give a shit about other humans.

April 1805. Charlie Brown is now master of Europe. Only the British fleet stands before him- Oceans are now battlefields.
My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance, Charlie Brown, in this life or the next.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.

all those moments will be lost in time. like tears in rain.

time to die, Charlie Brown

There is no “liberal” or “woke” overtaking of American higher ed. The dominant trend in our time is the opposite: widespread state censorship of academic freedom, free expression, and evidence-based learning or research. The dominant trend in higher education is authoritarian--full stop. 2/

The CDC Library plays an important role in providing our public health professionals with access to the best information.

Without them, CDC employees will lose access to information and resources in an outbreak.

I was grateful to give a lecture about academic freedom and misinformation about higher ed at the University of Alabama last week. I found the campus fascinating—a living museum to an era when U.S. colleges were truly anti-free speech and intolerant of diverse views. 1/5
