It's hilarious Bill's view is basically in a nicer way, 'yeah, I know some of my writers have close relationships with these centrist think tanks but they're dumb POS'
Interesting from Lauren Egan.

“A portion of the Democratic operative class is willing to concede massive amounts of funding will continue to be shoveled into Trump immigration operations.”

My reaction: You can’t go wrong ignoring much of the Dem operative class.

The weird thing about tonight is the thing everyone agreed on before tonight was that Spanberger was running a better race than Sherrill and Citarelli was running a better race than Winsome-Sears, yet it looks like Sherrill might outrun Spanberger despite NJ being a closer state in 2024

Matt is actually right there are a lot of people to his right, the difference is there aren't that many people to his right who vote on being annoyed by culturally liberal stuff outside of maybe immigration and even then, 2012 Obama would still be broadly popular even if Bluesky would be opposed.
My pitch to progressives would be that you need to think long and hard about how awful — racist, transphobic, a climate denier whatever else — you think I am and then assimilate the information that I’m a Clinton / Biden / Harris voter and Democrats need to win the votes of people way to my right!

I've been a social democrat-ish person (used to be liberal/progressive but basically the same views) for my entire life despite being born a poor white kid with a single Mom. Now I am older (early 40s), but I was never sold on any of this BS. Not even the opposite (far less dangerous) tankie stuff.
people talking about their "nazi phase" is so weird to me because i've been a normie lib all my life outside of when i had like a six month phase in 2014 where i entertained antiwoke libertarian ideas because of youtube and then halfway through a video i was like "wait this is all stupid as shit"

Bernie would've ended up w/ a 32% approval rating (for good and bad reasons) and a strong primary challenge if he won in 2020.
It really sucks to realize that Bernie Sanders would have made a terrible president, because despite having a lot of integrity himself, he is an abysmal judge of character. Just fuckup after fuckup with the candidates who only get traction from his endorsement. His appointees would have been awful.
October 24, 2025 at 3:07 AM
Bernie's entire history is a stubborn guy who makes bad personell decisions - this goes back to intra-left fighting in Burlington! Like, somehow in some ways, his 2020 campaign staff was worse than 2016.
The second order implications of Platner for Bernie, Faiz, and Carlson are uh not great
October 22, 2025 at 7:00 PM
I'm in my early 40s. There's a variety of reasons why I would be a bad political candidate (meh at speaking, not that charismatic, kind of an a-hole), but I don't have any Nazi tattoos, I haven't posted anything closer to what Platner did on Reddit, and I haven't been racist/sexist in group chats.

If you had a player in a video game w/ a statline like Ohtani, you'd report it as a bug.
Shohei Ohtani is the first player with 3 homers and 10 strikeouts as a pitcher in a game

I think a reason people don't feel this is Trump is still doing everything. People are still used to normal politics where politicians facing bad political winds back off and instead of assuming Trump is just surrounded by partisans, they think elections will be cancelled instead.

The Labour Party is what very online people think the Democratic Party is, Part XXXVII in a series. Like, outside of Fetterman post-stroke, I don't think I can think of any centrists who'd talk like this privately.
I would very much like to know *which* MPs are this dumb and racist.
Come for the really good essay by Patrick Maguire, stay for the really bad one being shared (approvingly!!) by some Labour MPs: www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...

When Republican's talked about "defunding Planned Parenthood", they weren't talking about cutting some of the money and giving it to pro-life groups. They were talking about spending zero money. People think the same thing about defunding the police.
More from the Suffolk University poll: www.suffolk.edu/-/media/suff...

Do you support or oppose "defund the police"?
Support - 21%
Oppose - 74%

Would you support or oppose cutting some of the police budget and using the money for social services?
Support - 54%
Oppose - 41%

If Pritzker was Governor of CA or NY (the two blue states people care about) & looked like Newsom and was doing the same things, he'd be 50%+ in primary polling. The good news is there's a whole primary cycle to fix this!

The Charlie Kirk assassination appears to be basically an old school Southern/Western insult of honor killing filtered through memes and the fact the person being insulted was transgender. No deeper political meaning really than a guy getting upset at a random restaurant somebody called his wife fat

Because the median person's view was, "cool, I got the vaccine (and eventually booster), can I go out and do stuff again without a mask" and this was unpopular among both the loudest COVID skeptics and the 5% of 'forever mask' people and those people were unrepresentative on social media.
It's incredibly weird that folks have convinced themselves that the Covid vaccines - which had an ~82^% take up rate - were unpopular.
Wow. New NBC poll finds 78% support vaccines, including 72% of independents and 67% of Republicans.

As I keep trying to argue, Democrats should polarize the shit out of the vaccine/public health debate. Make people take sides. It will split Republicans and MAGA.

See this:

Most politicians aren't corrupt, they just have terrible opinions and even then, even the median ghoulish terrible Trump-loving Republican congressman is still more liberal than the median Republican voter due to education polarization.

Let's make the charismatic former Democratic President who is still the most popular politician in America the focus of your witch hunt. Smart move.
at this point, i almost hope this admin does try to go forward with actually charging obama with something, stop fussing around the margins and go all-in or shut the fuck up
Point 1: Obama is obv innocent. A cheeseburger knows it.

Point 2: The Obamas are wealthy. They have the money (as well as some even wealthier friends) to REALLY fight this if this now-insane gov't follows through on this.

They are worried & scrambling right now. Things are spinning out of control.

Obama's team literally showed people the Ryan plan to focus groups during the 2012 campaign. They didn't think it was real.

Again, it's one thing to not to move to Bluesky and get off social media (as some basically have), but if you're a supposed leftie and still on Twitter and not really on here for anything more than forced to professional reasons and you claim to be left-leaning, I Have Questions.
I don't think there is anything you can do about it but the kind of (ostensibly) left wing accounts that have remained on twitter and know how to work the algorithm are really depressing: people saying any kind of resistance to trump is "cringe," overtly anti semitic posts about israel, etc

I do think our election in one year, inauguration in the next year is short circuiting to a larger part of the population than you'd expect. 100%, there'd be far less of this if elections were in March instead of November.
"who was president in 2020" remains the most difficult question in the world for a sizable chunk of americans, professional commentators included
The mainstream/centrist punditocracy seems to exist in an alternate universe around discussing protests where 1) BLM happened while Joe Biden was President and 2) it resulted in an electoral wipeout for Dems

Star Citizen has raised $800 million dollars. No corporate ownership. Just a bunch of GAMERS giving it all to basically one guy since AFAIK, Star Citizen is not a co-op.
You're a class traitor scumbag. My man's here is saying, "Let them eat cake," You aint Marie Antoinette in this metaphor you dumbass. Quit fighting against yours and ours best interests by lobbying for wage slavery and people not being able to enjoy art. You're a fucking joke.

Bluesky is a holding pen for people left of 95% of the population (myself included), but any left-leaning person still on Twitter has basically gotten so much worse in the last few months and I question why they're still there.
watching people arguing zohran is pro-bibi on the other site and i'm thinking some people have lost the plot

—also calling Roy Cooper to run in NC
—he also talked to John Bel Edwards
—Dan Osborn is considering a second run in NE

I think like gun control, this is a who cares about it more issue - yes, the median person was fine with most restrictions (and Biden believing vaccine release was the time to end them was probably right politically), but the people who really disliked them _really_ cared.
You might not realize this, since reactionaries have totally dominated public discourse on the subject, but most of the public was & is supportive of the basic preventative measures taken during Covid.
