There’s a reason most liberal democracies have abolished the death penalty. One is the risk of an irreversible, irredeemable miscarriage of justice. It presumes perfection in the criminal justice system — an impossibility in any human institution. Executing an innocent person is essentially murder.
One could also argue that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment for anyone, regardless of ID...
