I'm going to try to keep at least part of this account more light-hearted and fun instead of just another doom scroll, so here's a thread of sites and stuff I find interesting.
Really good thread about how the shutdown ended. Dem leadership is suffering but they also have a chance, as a party, to push back forcefully against Trump and his admin if they readjust their view of him and the stakes.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

This really is a great response for what is clearly a bad faith attack.

This is going to be the big headline. I get what Jackson is doing here, as it gives the first circuit an actual chance to rule instead of Trump immediately demanding SOCTUS chime in (in a normal situation SCOTUS would have turned him down anyway). It still sucks to see people go hungry.

Based on a lot of the responses to that post, I'm guessing those bits were going to be champed regardless.

The fact he's suing the DOJ for what is suspiciously close to the original price of his new ballroom shouldn't be overlooked in his overall crookedness. Trump should be in jail but since he isn't we also get to deal with the 2-bir grifting he's done his entire life.

Beyond the overall stupidity of Lovett acting like "please don't have a Nazi tattoo you weren't going to remove until people yelled at you" is some crazy high standard, I'd love to know what Platner's actual history in politics leads to Jon believing he'd be a good Senator?

Again, I'm old enough to very much remember how Romney was portrayed in 2012 and it was as an empty suit plutocrat. Santorum ran on a ton of culture war issues and got traction, but the legacy GOP was just able to win out with Romney. But combined with Sarah Palin you could see the turn coming.

The backlash to ABC/Disney canceling Kimmel has been swift, and severe. The whole episode underscores something I've been blogging about for a while: A lot of powerful people just don’t realize how unpopular Trump is

I can't imagine what drives these people to make up stories about grievances centered around a guy they likely didn't know existed 2 weeks ago.
Also, if I'm Starbucks I'd sue the crap out of this person because she's a public figure who straight up lied and cost you business.
Starbucks says surveillance clears an employee who’d been accused of writing “Loser” on a cup when someone ordered Charlie Kirk’s “favorite drink.”

The accusation was originally posted by a Republican party official. It forced the store to shut down for safety.

I assume they put together the 1 hour special full of Kirk clips and when they showed it to the FCC it was deemed too full of hate speech to be shown before midnight and on the open air.
Earlier this week, Sinclair said it would replace "Jimmy Kimmel Live" with a documentary about Charlie Kirk during the Friday time slot that Kimmel occupies on its ABC affiliates.

Friday evening, Sinclair pulled the documentary and aired "Celebrity Family Feud" instead.

It's funny that Silver quotes some other Substack writer as evidence that misinformation from the left is out of control when, reading said Substack, that author just believes whatever the "official" position is of the Yueno admin. He's not being critical in any meaningful way.

It's deeply crazy that a bunch of people who seemingly never interacted with Kirk and his politics in a meaningful way are writing odes to this imaginary version of him. And nobody is asking them to do this but they seem desperate to do it anyway.
September 11, 2025 at 9:02 PM
A couple of them have even said things to the effect that they don't know what his beliefs were, or that maybe he didn't mean them as much as they think he did, and it's all so obvious they don't want to deal with the reality of the guy they're trying to defend.
Some news organizations have dared report the views that made Kirk famous. The hagiographers can’t even mention those views out loud, because they make clear he greatly contributed to the politics of rage, conspiracy, and violence that may have ultimately ended his life.

God I find Klein insufferable in the best of times but that entire article is him basically saying that because Charlie Kirk was popular with right wingers he must be doing something right and so criticism of him is unfair. It's just gross fanboying around clout.

Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.
September 10, 2025 at 11:41 PM
Hell, let's check on the coverage of Kirk vs. the two HS kids who were shot a state over today.
We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

Yeah, beyond the fact there aren't however many million open homes the OP believes exist, where they're located also aren't near where people live now or want to be near. Putting someone in a place without access to work, assistance, a support network, etc. doesn't fix a housing issue.
