I showed this to my loving spouse and she just rolled her eyes, sighing: "🙄 It's already in the house"

so our government made a big deal about banning speed cameras but one city left theirs running to see what difference the ban would make and you are not going to believe this

#Montreal 's just leap-frogged other cities in North America by opening the REM.

Automated. Electric. Frequent (2.5 minute headways). Fast (100 km/h plus). Cheap to build. (One tenth the price of other systems)

And really fun to ride...

From the peak, every direction is down
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Boring hobby I've picked up: Listening to a Grammy winning album in some genre I don't know much about. Probably not putting Silkroad and Yo-Yo Ma on heavy rotation but why not challenge myself a little as I work. Music that hasn't become familiar/comforting puts you in a different state of mind.

part of what I like about Mamdani is his admission that housing affordability is a more complex problem than either building more housing or expanding rent control. You need to do both in order to protect the most vulnerable now and improve the problem long term.

Please, I need PAHSR
An Allegheny Base Tunnel, built to HSR specs, would be the crucial piece of infrastructure to connect the Northeast Corridor with the Midwest with reliable, frequent & fast passenger rail service, avoiding the terrain encountered by existing rail lines that limits speed & capacity.

People who use this technology do not want to be taught about a topic; they want the end result of having learned, without learning. I would guess for many this describes a feature, not a bug, of the technology.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

This post uses data from my latest poll with Verasight. We asked voters to describe what their ideal political party would stand for. Then, I categorized voters based on the issues they mentioned and computationally mapped them onto 3 axes: economic, social, and non-ideological/affordability.
