'Massive bushfires in 1998, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2013, 2014 & 2019/20 meant that over 97% of Alpine Ash distribution burnt. These fires overlapped & some areas burnt 2 to 3 times across two decades, leaving 43,000 ha of Alpine Ash forest at risk of collapse'.
These incredible old alpine ash can be found on Mt Stirling in Victoria’s high country. They survived logging, & fires in the early 2000s.

Now that logging has stopped, the main threat is from fires which are being super charged by climate change.

Australians need a government with the will and the courage to protect them from gambling harms.

How do you know your city is a healthy habitat for people? A decent place to start is whether children can play freely in their neighbourhoods and get around independently.

This is an excellent introduction to Tim’s work and the benefits of shifting away from car centric urban spaces.
New episode up! We talked with researcher Tim Gill about how we need to make our cities safe for children, not cars. "Children are basically living very captive and kind of contained lives, and that's just not healthy."
